We were at HS late last night to see Star Wars Fireworks... Only last minute ADRs we could get was Mama Melrose or Brown Derby. We didn't want to use 2 credits each to eat so chose Mama's.
Shockingly (have seen poor reviews) the food was excellent. DH and I both got Strip steak. Cooked perfectly to order and VERY tender. It was served with some yummy Mac and cheese. (More like penne pasta and asiago/white cheddar mix, maybe)
DGD had chicken parmesan which she said was very tasty and DGS had flatbread. He was not a fan. We shared ours with him... All in all a really good experience. Much better than expected!

It's been many years since we were there but we enjoyed our meal at the time. This place gets little love but it would be my first choice for TS and DHS.

I've never understood bad reviews for Mama's - we've always had good meals there and enjoy it sooooo much more than either H&V or Sci Fi (tied with 50's Prime Time for us). Last summer I had the Saltimbocca (pork tenderloin) and it was OMG FANTASTIC. Glad to see someone else liked it. What I can't stand at HS are ANY of the CS places. I despise being in that park at meal time if we don't have an ADR.

We had such a bad experience (ie just bad food) about 4-5 years ago we said we would never be back. May need to re-consider as reviews in recent years seem much better.

We've been there several times, and I'm surprised that the OP was surprised and shocked that she found the food to be good. Bad reviews can be found for every restaurant everywhere. But I have probably read many more favorable reviews for Mama Melrose than bad ones. The fact is, you will never know if you like a place until you try it for yourself.

While I don't doubt some people have had a bad meal there - a lot of people are just whiny and impossible to please. We've always had good food a Mama Melrose's too!

We eat at MM every trip and it's definitely one of our favorite places. I don't understand all the hate for this place.

Our Recommendations:
. . . appys:... Fresh Mozzarella and Vine-Ripened Tomatoes
. . . entree:.. Herb-Roasted Pork Chop, Oven-Baked Chicken alla Parmigiana
. . . dessert:. Chocolate Cannoli Cake
.
NOTE: The Italian restorante does try to serve authentic dishes, but like most WDW
eateries, is highly Americanized. Even though, the food is tasty and pleasingly plated.
But, the pricing is high for the meals offered, bringing the value rating down to a "C".
We were not satisfied with our paying $20 for spaghetti with clams and clam sauce,
and the $22 Pork Chop was overpriced. They have an Italian wine cellar, but nothing
to write home about. Even with these, the eatery is more than acceptable as in-park
eateries and is well above average.

I like your rating system!

We ate there for the first time this November and loved it! We had the Fantasmic package so we also received an appetizer with our meal and everything was very good. I even had GF pasta with my steak and it was nut mushy like a lot of GF pasta. Even my picky kids loved the pizza!

What is "GF pasta"? Lol

The food is pretty good, but if you're paying out of pocket it is really pricey for what you get.

That can be said for every restaurant at Disney.

We've always had a good meal here.

Good to know. Thanks for all the opinions. I've never been, but I'm putting them on my radar for our next trip.

We had a fantasmic lunch there in November and I think it was one of the better meals we had during our 10 day trip. With the included appetizers with the fantasmic package and the frozen cappuccino they let us substitute for a soft drink we were far too stuffed for dessert so they packaged it up for us to eat back at our room.

We always sine at MM. It is one of our favorite meals in WDW and we find that if e book an ADR for a late lunch we are able to enjoy a lovely rest before heading back out to the park.
