I am trying to decide which restaurant to try for our Fantasmic Dining Package.
It will be myself, DH, and 6 yr old DD.
We'll be on the Dining Plan and I'm wondering if HBD is worth the two credits.
Both restaurants seem to have such great theming.

Any thoughts?

I've never been to Brown Derby, but wasn't impressed by the food at Mama Melrose (though the restaurant itself was nice). Maybe someone who's been to both can be of more help. ;)

If you purchase the Fantasmic Dinning Experience, the cost of that package should include the dinner. I don't think that you will be required to use dining credits for the dinner. It might be a good idea to call and clarify.

The Brown Derby is better, but I wouldn't use two dinning credits to go.

Mama Melrose is very average and overpriced Italian food IMHO. The Hollywood Brown Derby was one of the best meals we had last trip. I feel it would definitely be worth the two dinner credits, but like the other poster said...if you are seeing Fantasmic it should be included in the price. We thought the food and service was extremely good.

Hollywood Brown Derby is by far on of my favorite places to eat. I have brought my DD there since she was 5 and DS was 10. It is also one of their favorite places. I don't like that it's a 2 credit meal, but it's worth it to me. We would be eating there this time if it wasn't for bring DD and 3 of her friends!!!! But to be fair, I have never eaten at Mama Melrose though. And the only comments I have read have been half and half. :confused3

I have been to both Mama Melrose and Brown Derby. I enjoyed both! IMHO, Brown Derby is true fine dining. Excellent meals both times there. I feel it is worth the 2 TS credits.

MM was also good. DF and I really liked the flat bread pizza, the salad and our pasta entrees.

My understanding is that you can pay for the Fantasmic package using your DDP, MM is 1 TS and HBD is 2 TS.

I agree that the Brown Derby is the superior restaurant but I would definately pay out of pocket for the Fantasmic dining package. It's listed at $37/ adult and $10/ child which is the cost of one days worth of TS credits.
Essentially you would be wasting an entire days worth of TS credits by using them here. Having said that, I would still definately go and pay out of pocket (it would cost you roughly $86 + tax & tip). You'll also have more TS credits left over for something else and you can say that you ate at a signature restaurant and got a show! Hope that helps.

We only ate at MM's once, but I didn't like my meal. I can't remember it off the top of my head, but I was just not impressed. I know it's Americanized, but I like Olive Garden/Macaroni Grill Italian food or our home-cooked Italian food. I felt MM's food was too spicy. I've nevr been to HBD but I'll get there someday. That's where I'd pick.

I was at the brown derby once when I was 9, and am currently deciding if we should go there, or 50's prime time this coming trip,

HOWEVER, I can tell you PlEASE FOR YOUR SANITY AVOID MAMA's.

I am a Disneyland Annual Passholder, and visit WDW at least once a year for the marathon weekend, and I can say without question that Mama's was the absolute worst food experience I have ever had at any Disney food establishment. heck, even the Disney soda fountain, sci fi dine-in or Disney Quest's food court was far better. The minestrone was cold. The flatbread had exactly two slices of pepperoni (that's right, the pepperoni flatbread - it looked like someone picked off bits for a snack). The penne a la vodka was still full of an alcohol taste. Worst part? The tiramisu dessert (we had been loving the fresh treats that were so special all week) was just the same as the one you can get for less at the Starring Rolls Bakery.

It just wasn't worth it at all, so please ...
Please - don't go to Mama's.
