I'm booking a Fantasmic dinner package and can't decide. I can get a 6:20 pm reservation for each one and Fantasmic is at 8:30 pm (next April). I'm leaning towards H & V since it's a buffet and we won't have to worry about being late to Fantasmic. What do you think? We've never eaten at either place (haven't been to WDW since 1994).

I've eaten at H&V at least 4 times now with the package because of the variety of food in the buffet because I have kids. It's also the cheapest.

But now that my kids are getting older, we decided to try MM this past trip on November 27. It was alright...desserts were great. Flatbread was ok. Don't know if I'd do it again though.

I think we'll be back at H&V next year.

Good luck deciding.

We did H&V in March of this year. The food was actually pretty good and if you are traveling with kids the buffet is really great for them.... they have a pretty big selection and if they dont' like what they get they can go back up and get something else. The adult selections are pretty good as well.

We ate at Mama Melrose's a few weeks ago. The service is really really slow.. we had ADR's for 4:20pm, arrived several minutes before... got seated after about 5 mins. Fantasmic was at 7pm that night and we almost didn't make it, we had to rush the server along. Our food was not as good as we remembered it when we went in 1998. The fantasmic package has a limited menu and I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I know we won't be back to MM when we go again. There were several tables around us complaining because the service was SOOO slow. We also spent about 225.00 there and it was no way worth it. We ate at the Liberty Tree tavern a few days later and paid 125 for our dinner and the food there was awesome and worth what we paid at MM.

I've never been to H&V so I can't say anything about that. But, I did eat at Mama Melrose's, and really enjoyed it. Included in the meal is bread, with a tomato-basil and garlic dipping sauce that is excellant, a salad with gorgonzola, which is excellant, I had the chicken flatbread, which is the best one I've ever had, in Disney or elsewhere, for my entree I had the steak, which was huge, I was only able to eat about half, it was cooked perfectly and was very good, and came with gorgonzola butter, and asparagus and polenta. The tiramisu was excellant. So it was a very high quality meal, and I highly reccomend it. The service was also excellant. It took me about an hour to eat. I ate at 4:30, the show was at 7:00, between dinner and the show I was able to see the Muppet 3-D show and Star Tours before going to the theater.

Mama Melrose is one of our favorites. We eat there whether we are doing the Fantasmic package or not. We always have great food and service. I also enjoy the fun atmosphere.

If you like buffet h&v is good, but mama melrose is also nice, i would say depends on your preference a sit-down or buffet. i actually like mama melrose food better.

Just went to MM in October and really liked it! Sounds like it would be a good idea to tell your server you're in a hurry. We didn't run into the "slow service" problem. The food was great - we ordered off the regular menu (no restrictions on any choices form the regular menu, even dessert!

Have seen quite a few negative posts about H&V lately - but cannot offer my own opinion since I haven't been there since 2002. Good luck!

We thought H & V was awful in August and are anxiously waiting until January to try out Mama Melrose. I hope it's better than H & V!

We like Mama Melrose over Hollywood and Vine. We haven't had any problems with slow service and they do have normal Italian dishes if you ask your server about them.

We were at Hollywood and Vine in June and it was really bad. Very few things we could eat. I ended up eating a ton of salmon. It was good, but I wanted a variety. My DS (15) could barely find anything to eat but enjoyed his desserts. In past years H&V had much better options. It was a huge disappointed in June and we won't be going back there again.
