I'm trying to decide whether to change our current reservation for Mama Melrose dinner next Wednesday to 1900 PF. It will be my wife and 2 girls, ages 6 and 4.

We already have Fairytale Dining Monday night and then Akershus for breakfast Tuesday. Do we "need" 1900 PF? Our girls love the princesses, but with this being our first and probably last trip for several years, I'm wondering if we just try to use our other reservations and park visits to meet the princesses and try another restaurant.

We are on the dining plan, so we won't be paying out of pocket.

I do have to say, the pics of the charred strip steak look right up my alley as I'm a meat and carb guy, but the trip is for the girls so I'm willing to sacrifice!

My girls are 2, 4, and 6. We are doing all 3- 1900 Park fare, Cinderella’s Royal Table, and Akershus. You really can’t get too much princess at those ages and the window for princesses is so short. 1900 Park fare is a great use of dining credit too because it’s expensive. I have a spreadsheet to make sure the dining plan is worth it and those character meals really make it worth it! The step sisters are supposedly hilarious and pics I’ve seen they realllly look like the cartoon movie. I’ve heard the buffet is decent too. I say go for it!

1900 Park Fare dinner is my favorite character meal--the stepsister and stepmother interactions are so funny and there is a very charming parent-child dance that really melted my heart when I danced with my young sons. It is also a much better value on the DDP than Mama Melrose. But if you are planning to be in Hollywood Studios, another character option that is not princesses but really fun is Hollywood & Vine (Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and I believe Goofy).

I hadn’t heard of the dance before! Cute! We are doing H&V Minnie & Friends at HS too. Glad to hear you liked it!

If you already have 2 character meals, I would skip 1900 PF. They are kind of stressful (especially the buffets).

1900 PF hands down. It is one of our family's favorite meals on property...even now that the kids are teenagers!

...and you can't go wrong w/ strawberry soup!

I think you can' go wrong with either it' just a matter of whether you want another character meal or not. Both are good though!:)

Both are good options. If you will be at HS, I would do Moma Melrose.
If you are not staying at GF, I would consider if its worth the time to get there and back for the meal.

I think being on the dining plan and considering your girls' ages, I'd do 1900PF. Character meals are expensive and the kids are at the perfect age! Well- we are all adults and we still do character meals, so I think you'll be doing them for a long time! But you'll get more bang for your buck (or credits) at 1900PF. The food there is great!

If you’re on the dining plan 1900 park is a MUCH better value and in my mind the food is better and the characters are great.

I think it depends on your timing in DHS. If you are planning to be in DHS for the evening, and leaving for 1900 PF, and going back. Not worth it. MM is a fine meal, and that steak is among my favorites.
If you are done for the day, by all means, go to 1900 PF. It is fun.

If you are looking for a fun character meal in DHS, H&V has characters. The reviews are all over the place, but I think dinner is worth a try with kids.

They rank about the same for us for different reasons.

Mama Melrose: Very convenient. Good food.
1900 PF: Fun location, Good quality buffet (but we prefer options where you order from a menu in general), some of the most entertaining characters you'll get at a character meal.

Another recommendation for 1900. Like others have stated, girls never get too much princesses. Our girls enjoyed as much as they could get. If you dont plan on returning for years, then this may be the time, as little girls do grow up, and admiration/fascination they have for princesses today will end as they move onto other things before you know it.

Try to make Mama Melrose the Fantasmic Pkg. then you don't have to wait as long for Fantasmic if you are planning for that.

I like 1900 Park Fare far above than your choices. I would choose it over any of your other picks.

The steak is good at Mama Melrose, but there is nothing outstanding there. From RL friends and family, I have not heard good things about the food or character interactions at either Cinderella’s Royal Table or Akershus.
