Oh I feel for her. Her babies must have flown away last night. (They looked ready to go yesterday) and the nest is empty today. Well She is sitting right on my deck above where the nest is(they made it under the deck) And just crying out for them.

She's been out there all morning. Not even moving when I went outside. She just chirps for them.

Poor mama bird her babies have flown the coop. :sad1:

Awww....

Our resident Kildeer babies are up and running around now.:thumbsup2 We were worried with the construction and kids playing near them the other day. They are well hidden with camo.

My dd went to look for them and mama had moved them. This morning they were running around.:goodvibes

Awwww,
She knows they are there!!!
I think a lot of Mama birds keep an eye out on their babies and chirp to them for a while...
:goodvibes

I wanted to cry last night, I came home and found a baby bird dead on my porch, poor thing looked like it fell out of its nest and broke its neck. Poor mama! Mama seems to be ok though since she taking care of the other babies.

Do baby birds literally leave the nest forever? That's so sad. :sad1:

Well sure. Just like us, they go off and have lives of their own.

If I only had my babies for a few weeks, I'd be sitting on the deck crying too. Fortunately, God gives us humans teenagers to deal with. This makes the empty nest a little more bearable!

Well I mean I know that in theory but just the idea of my babies flying away one morning. Do they come back? It's not as though they come back for Sunday dinners and talk on the phone like we do with our parents/kids!

We have baby birds in the vent of our powder room exhaust fan. The vent runs up over the ceiling in the laundry room and when they hear me in there they just chirp-chirp-chirp away. I don't have the heart to harm them so once they "fly the coop" I am going to have someone clean the vent and put a cage over the opening (like we did with dryer vent last year - don't know why I didn't do the exhaust vent at the same time!).

Mother Nature takes care of mamma birds and the babies. We have Eagles in our back yard...or close to our back yard..and all kinds of ducks in the trees. Normally Momma bird doens't fly the coop herself until all the babies are truly gone forever. This might be a training day for the birdees. Take heart...this is the way it is supposed to be. They will all winter somewhere warm and next again next year.

Just try and imagine that momma bird is planning a big family reunion on the Disney Wonder next year and all of the baby birds and their families are expected to attend.
