Am attending a conference near the mall of america. Conference will be held at Sheraton Hotel which is on Normandale Boulevard.
I will be taking my mom with me. Would really prefer a hotel that is very close to the mall so that my mom would be able to go while I am at the conference (don't mind driving to the conference from another hotel) and am also looking at the cost.
Does any one know the area well? Can you tell me where to find a map of the hotels in the area so I can see what is located closest to the mall itself? and in relation to the conference site?
Thanks.
Cathy

If you check out the Bloomington Convention and Visitor's Bureau website (do a Google search), they will show you which hotels are close to MOA.

Off the top of my head I know there is a Holiday Inn, Embassy Suites and Double Tree. There's probably a few more.

Maybe ask at your Sheraton if they have a shuttle to MOA. Some hotels may do that.

 waving to my neighbor in Circle Pines!!

I would definately think that the Sheraton has a shuttle that runs from the hotel to the MOA! You can also check out the MOA's website at: Mall of America and I am pretty sure they have info on hotels in the area!

You will have a great time there!

It will be much easier for you to stay at the Sheraton and shuttle to the MOA. I can reccomend the Double Tree suites though too. It is a short walk across the street, but with all the construction traffic in the area, I would think a shuttle would be adviseable anyway, even if you stayed at the DT. I say stick with the Sheraton and have her take the shuttle. We have MAJOR road construction all over the area right now. We have two seasons here in Minnesota....Winter and Road construction!:jester:

Thanks all for the hints. I will call sheraton and see if they have a shuttle.

The Doubletree near the mall is actually slated for demolition pretty soon. (It's been called the Mall of America Grand for awhile now.) They had a sale last week to get rid of all their furnishings. Something about being too tall for a new runway at the airport, I believe.

The Sheraton does have a Mall of America shuttle. If you don't mind driving, you could probably get a Mall-area hotel on Priceline pretty cheap.

I know the Holiday Inn had a shuttle. That is where we stayed last year. I believe they ran every hour.

I have to reccomend the Embassy suits hotel (airport one, a sec from the mall though, and not right next to the airport, wierd I know). It usually is about 130 a night and it has free breakfast, a cook to order breakfast with cold stuff too! It has a nightly thing where you get free drinks and pop with popcorn, prezels, and checks typs mixes, a spicey and reg one. I stay there when ever I go thereI love it!!!!!!!! you have to get the airport one though because it is like a second from the mall. The bloomington is like 5 minutes from the mall and not nearlly as nice as the airport one! Oh you have a suit like room with a kitchen and coffemaker, iron, 2 tvs. Very nice for that price. I like it best for the breakfast. Sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes, omlettes (sp?), cereal, fruit, donuts, muffens, more fruit lol, yogert (sp? again.. and more too),many juices. For the night they have many kinds of drinks. I really like them. Can you tell? lol I live about 3 and half hours away and when ever we get "free" money we go there. It is close to mall and a fun hotel too. We put the kids to bed and almost shut the door and sat on the couch and watched tv! we can never do that at any other hotel and for only 130! that is all I can think of for now lol! I hope you still have your options open because that hotel is nice!!!! and I have stayed I believe at fairview before and it was baaaaaaad. Other then that is it ES for us lol!

ok here is a link to that hotel

the best hotel lol

Waving to my Vadnaid Heights neighbor! :wave2: Hey, maybe we should head to the Panera on Cty Rd E and 35E and talk a little Disney sometime! :teeth:

I second Diane's recommendation - stay at the Sheraton and have your mom take the shuttle to the MOA - or a cab if they don't have a shuttle (although I can't imagine them not having a shuttle). Save both of yourselves the hassle of having to drive through the mess.

The Sheraton is at 494 and Hwy 100/Normandale Blvd, and that is the worst part of the road construction that is taking over 494 this summer - even to the point of them shutting down certain ramps at that interchange due to bridge construction. Traffic has always been heavy on 494 (the Bloomington stretch is one of the busiest roads in the Twin Cities), but with major constuction occurring, it's gotten even worse.

I stayed at that hotel, as well as arranged business meetings there, when it was a Radisson, and it was a nice place. I haven't been there since it switched over, but I'm sure its still nice.

THanks all. I am making reservations at the Sheraton. SOunds like it would be better to stay at the conference site.

Can anyone give me an idea of hotels that are close to the Sheraton? I am having a problem getting a room there for what I would like to pay. The prices quoted are absolutely ridiculous! They tell me all the conference rooms are 'gone".
Thanks.

The Hotel Sofitel is right across the street, but I don't know if that would be cheaper. There are a few on the southeast corner of the 494/100 intersection. A search I did came up with the Country Inn and Suites and the Days Inn.

You can try searching some Yellow Pages or hotel search websites. You can use 7800 Normandale Blvd, Bloomington, MN as your address. 78th Street is the north frontage road for 494, and Hwy 100 is also known as Normandale Blvd (in fact, Hwy 100 ends as of 494 and continues south as Normandale).

Or, if you dont' mind trying the drive or you are OK with taking a taxi, you can try one of the hotels closer to the airport and Mall.

Good luck!

Country Inns and suites are on the south side of the Mall. I'm almost certain they have a shuttle. The Sheraton is on the north side. It would be easy for you to drive to the conferance from there. I should warn you that IKEA just opened in the area and the traffic is worse than Disney.

Thanks for the help. I will do some more checking and call for prices. THanks.

ANyone know anything about the bloomington hospitality inn and suites? I can get a good price there.
