I'm a girl. I do all the planning and mostly all the reading. DH will occasionally read these boards when work is slow, but to my knowledge he has never posted. I will usually tell him if anything major is going on. Erin

since the majority of WDW fans are females - this poll is probably right.

the males I know think WDW is okay - but they would rather go to a sport event - even with WWOS and the race track - they would rather see something closer to where they live than go to WDW.....Some dislike Florida - I can't believe that myself....Say they would rather go to Soutwest desert.....

My DW works on computers all night long and sleeps during the day and does not want to spend her time off taping on a keyboard. :) ::MickeyMo :earsboy:

Say it isn't really so? I am a guy and love WDW. In fact I am usually dragging my wife out of the ESPN Club to head into Epcot. I do enjoy sports but figure I can watch games anytime when I am at home and not while at WDW.

I've banned my dh from these boards. It's an invasion of my privacy ;)

He was on here once and he started talking to me about it and it was just too weird, I asked him to stay off my boards, I found them first :teeth: !

LOL....Same here!!! I won't let him visit the DIS, just in case.....;)

I also won't tell any of my neighbors about it since I have mentioned some of them on the community board. (mostly nice things, but I can't remember everything!) I'm so nervous they might read about themselves and figure out it was me LOL

Here's what's interesting to me...

Someone mentioned that the women were leading 71-39. Now it's starting to even out. I think that means that at any given time, there are more women on the board, but over the course of a day or two, us guys show up too. It would be very interesting to see whether men or women actually post more often. I'll bet the margin would widen again. It's my perception that women post more often here.

I'm actually surprised that it's getting closer, as the overall tenor of the board seems to skew feminine. (Not necessarily female, but feminine.)

I have never and will never offer anyone pixie dust, engage in a double digit dance, or use the word "sooo" instead of "so".

That's why I disagree with closing down the Occupancy Thread. The occupancy thread was a great place where guys could go and scratch themselves, belch, slam a few brews and have a good spirited debate. (Stout-hearted women were always welcome!)

While it may sound off topic, I think the closing of the Occupancy Thread is emblematic of what drives men away from boards like this. Go back and read the last few pages of the Occupancy Thread. The discourse, while heated, was never cruel. And it was almost always thought-provoking. I felt like I knew nearly everyone who posted, and respected their views, regardless of whether I agreed. It was EXTREMELY level-headed by any measure of internet discussion.

It was far more interesting than discussing OKW refillable mugs or the thread count of BCV sheets. If you didn't think so, you simply didn't have to read it!

I'm not sure precisely what type of board the moderators want. (Indeed this post may be deleted, so read quickly.) But my feeling is they should consider the best interest of their sponsor.

I'm sure the Timeshare Store would like to see as many men as possible on this board, since a man is involved (solely or with his wife) in the vast majority of DVC purchases. To that end, discussion threads that skew toward them should not only be left open, but actively encouraged!

If a moderator feels that a discussion is getting out of hand, a simple "C'mon guys, calm down" would suffice. (You'd be amazed at what pussycats we are.) Shutting it down is a bit over the top.

Sure, these are not all male-female issues, but many of us TRULY love these boards, yet could care less about bouncing emoticons.

I had originally planned on starting a new thread with this thought, but I felt like it belonged here. I realize this post may provoke thinking, and perhaps even provoke thoughtful responses, and therefore may be deleted.

I am SOOOO nervous about hitting the submit button!!!

I'll pass you a brewsky instead.

Although yours are interesting and by no means far off the mark comments, I will only state that these Boards will tend toward the "cute" and the "childish" rather than the "intellectual" and "serious", if for no other reason than WDW and by association DVC is by its nature designed to bring out the kid in each of us. Accordingly, just as I would have at age 10, I will likely continue to get excited (whether you call it a double-digit dance or not) in a truly immature kind of way every time a Disney trip is near. For me, heading back to WDW is like going to Neverland (please no Michael Jackson cracks here ;) ).

Although I am in agreement that more controversial topics make for good discussion and should be encouraged, it is not likely that "The Man's Man Guide to WDW" is likely to become a best-seller any time soon (although it might be fun to write).

Men no doubt on average have great vacations at WDW - it is simply a resort that has something for almost everyone - but I believe the commercial that WDW used a couple of years ago . . . with the 30-something man whining to his 60 something parents going to WDW without him - is pretty much WDW's wheelhouse when it comes to marketing. So, for me...I will continue to enjoy the cute and the childish, while still enjoying tremendously hearing peoples geniune disputes about important DVC issues.

Thanks for bringing it up that way CVW.

Louis

Louis, there was also the WDW commercial with the men out playing golf, but pretending to their wives on the cell phone that they were inside the parks riding a ride!

CVW, what you won't send out pixie dust, but you will receive??? Haven't you heard it is better to give than receive?

No, really I totally agree with you. I'm all about a good debate on an aerobed! :teeth:

If I'm on an aerobed with someone, debating is probably not on my mind. (See? I'm always thinking like a man.)

Depends on the topic and more importantly, the prize for winning. :hyper:

ON TOPIC, wifey doesn't read the boards though she occasionally asks what everyone's arguing about. I'm the information sink in the family though she does read through the Unofficial guide as we approach a scheduled trip Home.

For the most part, I keep to the DVC boards. I venture occasionally to the Tips board but I get bored there quickly...and the perspective on the budget board is usually so far out of my frame of reference as a DVCer I don't find much useful there...well, I don't e-bay so that REALLY doesn't help.

go by the percentage 55% female, 44% males.

I am a single female who owns DVC and I am NOT the only one....

I will repeat if necessary.

there was a time when a single guy could not buy a timeshare - where there NEVER a problem with a single female. Oh by the way this system is still at play at some timeshares go visit tug for more details.

DVC probably has more single female owners than single male owners.

WDW has always been more popular with females - look around next time you are in the parks - count the males, then count the females.....

f I'm on an aerobed with someone, debating is probably not on my mind. (See? I'm always thinking like a man.)

I knew I was setting myself up on that one!

I'm the hubby ("...not the mama, NOT the mama..") and the Disney-o-phile. I do enough planning, lurking, obsessing for the both of us ;)

Why don't we just skip the 'count the males' part and go right to the 'count the females'. :hyper:

CVW,
I would find that surprising, if true... (sounds like a good spin off poll topic ... :) )

Here ya go, CVW ol' buddy:

:wizard: pixie dust ---> CVW!

Joe, sounds like it's time to form the Walt Disney World Female Guest Enumeration Project; I get the redheads - you and CVW and fight over the blondes and brunettes ;)

And to be honest, I do miss the Debate Board every now and then; it was always a good place to get a cardio workout for the brain....
