DD turns 9 in June & she wants to do a Maleficent movie theater party. Would you do it? DD can handle it, she loves the Disney scary stuff. Maleficent is one of our favorites. It's all she wants (other than going to WDW) for her birthday. Most of the moms that I have talked to were ok with it but some are almost offended. I just don't want to be "that" mom...any suggestions.

I don't see anything wrong with it and if that is theme she wants than do it. Think of it as a little Halloween in June. Just play up the Black, White, with some Purple to soften it a little. Get some dry ice to go in the punch. Maybe have the original movie playing in a loop.

My daughter is 9 and would LOVE this! There will always be the chance a parent or a child decides that type of movie isn't for them. If you are doing a theater party, just make sure your daughter knows someone may say no based on the film so she isn't disappointed at the last minute. If the movie is just a portion of the party, a child who won't like the movie can always just come afterward for cake and presents.

Have fun!!!:maleficen

wouldn't have a problem with it at all. Isn't it rated pg?
You can't please everyone.

I remember years ago when my son was in 2nd grade, one boy had a movie party with one of the spiderman movies. It was rated PG-13. We couldn't go because we were on vacation, but he would have if we were available. I remember one mother making such a big deal about it being pg-13.

I think it is an AWESOME idea! DD has been talking about the movie since she first saw the preview.

Invite whom you want and give them the option if they would like to come or not. Just let them know what the planned activities are and let them decide. The other option is to have a small party prior to the movie and allow all to attend and then only those that want to see the movie (or are allowed to) go. The others can be picked up at a certain time from the party.

My DD can't wait for Godzilla to come out either.:lmao::lmao: Does that make me a bad parent?:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks for all the great ideas! I knew I wasn't crazy... all my Dis Peeps would get it :goodvibes

Haha...if your Dd is turning 9, she is likely going into 4th grade in the fall? My Dd turned nine last June, is in 4th, and all of her friends want to watch Divergent and Hunger Games! I think all of her friends' parents would sigh in relief if some chose a PG Disney movie LOL I'd be fine with it!!!

9th birthday, PG movie? What's the issue? If someone doesn't want to go, they can just decline the invitation. I wouldn't even think twice about it.
