My uncle ( a fireman) said if we put a piece of a garden hose in a copper pipe and place it under our fire it will turn a different color. Tried it this weekend....

IT WORKED!! :cool1: We hade some awesome blue and teal and green flames.!!

Was wondering if anyone has the real directions for this and some tips on how to make it last a little bit longer!
Thanks
MArissa

We have done this too. The kids really think it is neat. Don't know how to make it last any longer though, sorry.

Makes no smell whatsoever. The colored flames are caused by a gas formed by the chemical reaction of the rubber in the hose with the copper. Harmless....and very impressive. We use 3/8" hose in 1/2" pipe. Easy to stick in there and the natural curl of the hose keeps it in place. Drill some little 1/4" holes in the pipe and you'll get more color.

Yum toxofire don't be roasting any marshmallows or hot dogs in that fire for sure unless you like to eat even more toxins than usual. I have to say it does look cool though.

that brings back childhood memories, My Poppy always did this when we camped on Lake Champlain when I was a little kid. It looks very cool to a kid!!
