I remember a trip to Disneyland that I did in the early 90s. We didn't have a lot of cash, but made good use of our coffee maker in the hotel room. No microwave in our room.

Cut up weiners and put them into the empty coffee pot, percolated water through the coffee pot to heat the weiners and had hot dogs.

Used the coffee pot to get boiling water for instant noodles and other "just add boiling water" meals.

I'm sorry. but that just sounds yukky!
using the hot water for things like ramein noodles, cup of soup etc. are great ideas!
but putting hot dogs IN the coffee pot itself?... I hope you are bringing dish soap and washing it out REAL GOOD!
I think whatever you do, the next guests' coffee will taste like hot dogs.

I am not a coffee drinker, but I do like tea, and I have tried over the years to make tea in the coffee pots in hotels, but I just think everything takes on the taste of coffee. It may just be in my head, but I just think whatever you make in those coffee makers tastes like coffee.

ick. That is poor college food, and I wouldn't consider putting it in a coffee pot. I hate weiners and don't want hickory in my morning brew.

That's my thought too.

So true!

But coffee flavored tea or wiener flavored coffee?........ A toss-up!

I've used the coffee maker in a hotel room to get hot water for oatmeal, but the thought of cooking hot dogs in a coffee pot is... ick. As a PP said, I hope you washed it out well afterwards! If I'm using a coffee maker to get hot water for other things, I run a few cycles of plain water through it to wash it out first. Never thought my oatmeal, etc has tasted like coffee.

When you run the water through, you need to remove the brew basket (turn it to the side), and take off the top of the coffee pot when the water's heating. Assuming the coffee pot was cleaned of coffee, your water will taste fine.

Personally, for me, this is taking things a little too far. I figure that I'm on vacation, there's no reason for me to be cooking in the room with the coffee maker.

We've used it before. . .things like instant oatmeal, cup-o-noodles and even instant soup and mashed potatoes. I've never actually put anything in the pot. I would think it would be ok if you washed it really well after, but I would probably put them in something else and pour the hot water over them anyway. And to echo a PP, if you take the brew basket thing out, it shouldn't taste like coffee. . .at least I didn't think it did.

Even though I have a feeling that this thread was started just to stir the pot so to speak, I'll respond with a big YUCK!

I never use the coffee pots because I just don't think that they are clean. I can see heating water for Ramen noodles or oatmeal but hot dogs - NO!

I'm sure we'll have a vegan/vegetarian posting here soon because I can see how this would be terribly upsetting to someone who doesn't believe in eating meat.

I don't know whether to laugh or throw up. :scared1:

This is why I will never use a hotel coffee pot.....sorry but that's just a little gross. I think it would be better if you brought a small pot from home to use.

I do think this was a creative idea, I don't think the OP was joking. From reading here am I to beleive that hotels don't wash out the coffee pots after each stay? Now that's gross!

I haven't seen a maid's cart with a dishwasher. I always wash out the coffee maker before I use it. I try to avoid the non-disposable cups in rooms for the same reason, though I have washed them out when I had to use them.

We have rented condos or rooms with kitchens, I wash everything before I use it because I don't know how well they were cleaned.

This thread reminds me why.

I have tried rinsing out the coffee pot with dish soap and water, which I always carry with me to disney, the pot always makes my tea taste like coffee. I think maybe because I am a tea drinker only. When we went 2 years ago, we bought a toaster at walmart or a grocery store that was $9.00 and made toast, english muffins, bagel and toast for sandwitches in the room. We got a grocery delivery of milk, bread, deli meat, water, soda, cereal etc. There we 9 of us, 4 adults and 5 children it was nice to give them breakfast in the room while everyone got ready and then we were off to the parks. With peanut butter and jelly and coldcuts you can also give them lunch or dinner once in a while in the room also. We did a character breakfast out and mostly lunch and dinner out. With 5 kids that don't eat very much, it is very expensive and this way we saved a lot of money and a lot of time. I have also gone to disney and taken bagels or english muffins and toasted them at the food court. However, I usually take my own jelly and peanut butter for this.
