We have never been to WDW with a toddler before and are concerned that when she gets there that "headed Characters" such as Mickey and Pooh may scare her. We want to make our ADR's as soon as we can so we won't be able to predict at this point how she will react.

Would it be possible to make two ADR's for the same meal date and time in case Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace are not doable for her?
We could cancel them as soon as we knew (once we get to the park) and then still have our back up ADR.

Also we have these two planned at the end of our stay so that hopefully she will warm up to these types of characters.

Do you have a Chuck E. Cheese type restaurant near you? You could try your DD there and see how it goes.

I'm afraid you are going to get flamed for asking this. Disney Dining would not allow you to make two ADR's for the same date/time. It is really frowned upon.

ETA: The character wont "push" your DD if you shake your head no to them or say something like 'she doesn't like characters' and I think they are smart enough to know which ones are crawling up their parents body to get away from them!

I made my ADR's for March last Sunday. We're a party of 8, and even calling at EXACTLY 7am at 180 days out I was able to get less than desirable times for our large party for a few reservations.

I asked if we could split our group to four and four for the same time at the same restaurant. We COULD, but we had to reserve under two names.

Another possibility - you don't need to have the characters visit you at your table when you're at Crystal Palace of Chef Mickey's. You can just wave the characters on and they'd skip your table. (If your daughter is scared of them)

Disney's system does not allow this (two meals reserved for the same meal (lunch or dinner))--some people have had one of their reservations cancelled because the system caught this kind of double-booking. What you can do is book one (maybe the character meal) for lunch and one (the non-character meal) for dinner, and then decide which you want to keep once you see how your child reacts to the characters.

We also did the "test" on my nephews by taking them to six flags N.E. which is an hour away from where we lived. They used to hate those furry guys, but they grew out of it and absolutly loved Bugs and the gang.

There are mixed reports about making double ressies. Some people have reported that ALL ressies for that day get cancelled if they discover a double booking .... of course what I did may be pooh-pooh'd by some dissers :sad2: but since I was not sure of our itinerary on 180 days out (it was all banking on weather we could get an IllumiNations cruise, which can't be booked until 90 days out) I booked one restaurant in my name and another in my moms name and left 2 different phone numbers (so there was no way to track that is WAS a double ressie ;) )

Of course once I did get the IllumiNations cruise and knew for sure what I was doing when, I called and cancelled the ADRs I didn't need.

As stated you cannot and should not make more than one for any given meal. why not skip the character meals all together if she is that young, and save them for a trip when she is older.

I hope I wouldn't get flamed since I'm just asking a question?:)

I like the idea of going to Chuck-E-Cheese to see how she does!

I also didn't think about just waving the characters away if she is scared. I kept just thinking of her seeing them and getting scared.
DH and I ahve been a few times and we really enjoy CP and CM so we thought it would be fun for her and something we couldn't wait to experience with her. Of course we also don't want her to have a scary dinner!!!!

I thought it might be ok to make the two ADR's as long as we cancelled them and not just "not show up" I understand though how people would not be happy with this.

I just have to add.....Who wouldn't be afraid of a six foot rat?? :scared1: (Chuck E Cheese) plus he isn't the cutest thing out there ;)

Disney can connect "overlapping" ressies -- unless the names and phones they are made under are different, and if at least one of them is made by a caller who answers "no" when asked if they are staying on property.;)

We went to CP in May and our youngest (DS2) is afraid of the characters. My oldest DS (6) has always loved them and at 18 months was running up to them so that is why we went. Our waiter (wonderful CM by the name of Scott) would always somehow show up at our table right about the time the characters would and 'shield' our youngest with a napkin. The characters are really good about not approaching children that look upset, scared are whose parents wave them off. If you are that unsure about how she will react make ADRs for non-character meals and do the meet-and-greets instead.

This is a perfectly legitimate reason for making a double reservation. If you do this, just make sure you give 2 diff names and phoen #s to book them. if they have the same phone #, the system may automatically cancel them as double booking. And make sure you cancel the one you decide not to use early in your trip so someone else can pick it up. Lighten up, people; it is a dining reservation!!!

 :sad2: :confused3 :scared1:

I think the suggestions of exposing your child to characters at home before the trip are great. This way you can make your ADRs for your trip and let someone else make theirs:)

WOW! I really thought people were being very civil.

Yes I also think people have been very civil and I thank you for that.
I know people have lots of opinions on this and that is fine. That is why I asked the question. I have gotten some good information and I thank everyone!
