Okay, I'm ready to go buy my cricut and I have a question. If I want to have a word, say "Disney World" on my page, does it come out as one word or do I have to piece each letter together to make the word? Would the cursive writing cart produce any word I want in writing or again do you have to piece each letter together?

you would have to piece the letters together unless you got the cricut design studio which hooks to your computer then you type it out on the computer and it will cut it out all together.
there is a few disney cartragies that have the words Disney on them - and they are all hooked together
does this make sence - my brain is fried today

Yes, thank-you, that's what I wanted to know. I guess I'll have to get that program later. So in that case, Disney would be all one word then I'd have individual letters to make the word "world"? Wil this look weird?

If it were me, I'd use the word Disney, which is in script like the signature and then cut world out of something totally different like the rather squarish font on Opposites attract and then maybe layer the Disney over the WORLD, instead of trying to make the word world 'look like' the word disney.

Hmmmm, I see what you guys mean. That doesn't look weird, its actually very nice! I see on the Michael's site that I can get design studio free with three cartridges. What can I do with that?

You can do loads of things! Even if you just get the trial version, I'd do that because I love to see exactly what size something is going to cut. I think it's worth it for that alone. But I LOVE welding with it. I hardly ever use any of my carts without design studio anymore. This page has a few examples of welding. I welded Cursive 101 for the title, and I welded a rectangle from George & Mickey (from Mickey & Friends cart) and Snow White (from Happily Ever After cart) to make the photo mats.

Oh Darn, i can't open either of your links

If you are contemplating a cricut purchase, you NEED to go to the cricut.com website. LOTS of info, LOTS of great ideas, and while it isn't the DIS, the people who post there are extremely knowledgable, and will help you figure out anything!

They have a very active message board, with a specific section just for the design studio stuff.

I downloaded the free trial but it won't open?? Does the cricut have to be attached to the computer to open the free design studio program? I haven't got the cable I need to do that yet.

No, the cricut doesn't need to be connected to the computer to launch the program, only when you want to cut.

Just curious, do you have a Mac? I do not believe Mac's work with design studio. Or, are you on Windows Vista - that will also cause some issues.

I couldn't get Design studio to open either til I went to the Cricut boards and they said to hook the cricut up to the computer to get it to work. I did and it worked fine. You can use any usb cord. Do you have a printer that uses a usb? You could borrow that one. The only thing is you can only use the George cart to cut with til the code comes in.

I used the Disney carts to do the "Disney" and Base Camp to do the "World"

hi, do you have a link for this...i did not see this offer on the michaels site...maybe cus im in canada

thanks!

I am in Canada also. Here is the link http://www.cricut.com/getDSfree/ but hurry!! The cartridge sale at Michaels ends today!!!
I have the reg cricut, not the expressions and it has a phone jack type input to hook up to computer. I need to get this cord, will try dollarama later toay.
ColleenG, LOVE that page!!

I have the reg Cricut too. Good luck getting the cord.

I got the cord, it turns out it's just a regular printer cable not a phone jack after all! After I attached the cricut to the laptop and turned it on, everything worked great. Now, I only have the trial version but I have 4 different carts. Can I cut from any of the carts that I own or only cut from George till I get the full version?

I have wondered the same thing. I have had the free version of Design Studio since it came out but have never done anything with it. I love the idea of welding things together. One of these days my bug will have to meet my laptop. ;)

Yes I was wondering about that. There is a square that you can check off that says "weld", but the letters are still seperate. Will it automatically stick the letters together? Boy I really need a lot of help here!!
