Making the DVC Rounds...A March '11 PTR: TR link added p. 30

Hi again everyone! Are you sick of me yet? I’m wdwgirl03 (aka Sarah) and yes, I’m back with yet another PTR! It’s funny because I never used to do thse things and now I can’t seem to stop. This year alone I’ve already done two for my trips in April and August (that trip report is currently in progress right HERE). But whenever one trip is over that means it’s time to start planning a new one! I don’t know about you gus but I always feel better having some dates set.

Speaking of dates, this trip will be another spring break trip for me. Now that I am officially on a teacher’s schedule, school breaks are the only time I can really go. Not to worry though, we’ve done it several times and are used to what it’s like during peak seasons. So when exactly is spring break? Because Easter is so late next year break is at the end of March. This trip will take place from March 26-April 2, 2011. The nice thing about trips in March/April is that the weather is usually awesome!

Now to explain this PTR title. As you probably know by now (or have figured out from the title), we are DVC members. Our home resort is Saratoga Springs but as much as we love it there, it’s always fun to try new resorts. I know some people are so deadset on a favorite place that they never want to switch but when you’ve been to WDW as much as us, you want to experience something new, right? That’s one of the reasons why we keep going back. When we joined DVC in 2006 I decided that one of my “Disney goals” is to stay at all of the Vacation Club resorts. In just four years, I’ve already stayed at:

Saratoga Springs
Beach Club Villas
Animal Kingom Lodge: Jambo House
Animal Kingdom Lodge: Kidani Village
Wilderness Lodge Villas

Not bad for only four years of membership! So when it came time to choose a resort for this trip, I wanted to pick another new one. Part of the difficulty in this is how DVC does their reservations. You’re allowed to book at your home resort 11 months ahead of time and 7 months at the other resorts. And that’s based on availability. Sometimes there isn’t anything at the other resorts. Luckily, pretty much everything was open for these dates. What did I choose? The original DVC resort, Old Key West! Dad and I went to visit on our April trip and I thought it looked nice. I’m excited to try another new place and get one step closer to hitting them all/finishing my goal!

As of right now, those are the only things that are set. Besides me, I don’t even know who else is coming along (though I have a pretty good idea which I’ll share later…). Stay tuned for more!

OK, so for the last couple years we all know that Disney’s big thing is “What Will You Celebrate?” I am assuming that is going to be coming to an end because there is another important milestone coming up that’ll be worth celebrating but that theme is not going to end for me! Here are the things that I plan to celebrate on this trip:

1. A new job
As you might’ve read in my August TR I was recently offered a teaching/aide position. Having worked as a substitute teacher for the last 2 ½ years I was more than happy to accept that offer. Definitely worth celebrating.

2. My birthday!
Originally the plan was to be in Disney World for my actual birthday (March 12) but because of the school calendar that’s not possible anymore. Even though I’m a little bit sad I won’t be there on my birthday, I guess I can’t really complain since I still get to go, even if it’s a couple weeks late.

3. A big Disney World milestone
Next year is 2011. Disney World opened in 1971. Making next year WDW’s 40th anniversary year! I am betting anything that this’ll be Disney’s next theme/celebration. No, I am not betting, I KNOW it will be the next celebration because I've already seen things about 40th anniversary merchandise. I cannot believe it’s going to be the 40th anniversary. I was thinking about this the other day and realized something kind of crazy. In addition to celebrating this Disney milestone with everyone else, I came to the realization that it’s a personal Disney milestone as well. Why you ask? My first trip to WDW was in 1991. I’m stating the obvious again in saying next year is 2011. That means it’ll be 20 years since I first visited Disney World. TWENTY YEARS! That makes me feel really old but at the same time I think it’s kind of cool that it falls the same year as WDW’s 40th anniversary. That’s where those song lyrics come in…they come from the song “Remember When,” which was the theme song for Disneyland’s 50th anniversary in ’05. I can’t wait to see how they’re going to celebrate this milestone! So exciting and I’m glad I’ll get to be there for yet another Disney celebration.

Needless to say I will be picking up an “I’m Celebrating” button as soon as I get there!

Woohoo for the celebrations! I think those things make going much more special, which is why I'm eager to celebrate SOMETHING. I may go get the celebrating buttons since it's a delayed celebration of my engagement to Weird. There's still a part of me that wants to wear the "Just Engaged" ones you sent, but we'll see, hehe!

Wow, I didn't even realize the 40th anniversary thing! That's going to be so much fun to be there for a Disney celebration AND your own celebration. I don't even remember the first time I went to WDW. I should ask my mom. I can't even count how many times I've been there unless I take out the calendars, but I am very curious to know that as well.

Joining your TR. Have you looked at the new pictures of OKW? Some of the rooms have been refurbished, it looks so nice. I do like the old look too though.

40 years Huh? I went in the Spring of 72', yes I am that old. We begged our Mom to stop on our ride home from our visit to our Grandmothers condo in Ft Lauderdale. I don't remember much. Do you think they will wait until October to start the celebration?

Welcome! Glad you are enjoying my August TR so far. I need to get going on that. LOL.

On the collectors board I saw something about some pins being released and then there was also a big event a couple weeks ago and they showcased some new vinylmation figures for the 40th anniversary. I will have to post the links later.

haha, I know, I have done that so many times where I'm late to a PTR.

Yeah, I've never really celebrated anything so it'll be fun to have something to get buttons for. Really I just want one of those buttons. You should ask when you first went...now I'm curious!

It's funny because we used to always stay at the Polynesian (which I still miss) and now we haven't stayed at the same resort, atleast for two trips in a row, in a long time. DVC just makes it so easy to stay at nice places!

Yeah, you have to go for the 40th! I have already decided I don't care what I'm doing, but when the time comes for the 50th I am going!
