Making requests & Poly ground floor?

I have been thinking about my room requests and since I know the Poly is booked up when I'm going I don't want to be too picky and not get anything I want.

I would like to be able to leave the room for a few minutes while my kids are falling asleep and thus would like a balcony, but would a ground floor be OK too? I haven't read any comments on this, but are there any disadvantages to having a ground floor room?

I originally requested one of two specific longhouses but since I have never been there I am not sure if that should be a priority for me? I am wondering if it would be better for me just to focus on the balcony/patio?

We have stayed at Poly twice and both times had ground floor patio rooms. I like the idea of walking out the patio door and seeing the ducks wondering about. Your kids may find this fun. As for the kids sleeping...you could sit on the balcony or patio. Its really a preference but I have like the ground floor for accessibilty, not waiting for the elevator is another plus...Either way you will love the Poly and the location is awesome. :cool1:

Our last three trips to the Poly have all been GV - Ground Floor - In the Samoa Building - Looking at the Volcano Pool.

We LOVE the patio and the location overall.

We personally LOVE the ground floor. Our kids have a wide range of 12 yrs between all 6 of them. Being on the ground floor let me stay close to the ones napping while being able to see & get to...the older one while they played on the beach. Since our "baby" is now 6...I don't think we'll have to worry about this next time.

The poly is our FAV...you'll love it!

Have you requested this? Or was it just a lucky draw. My mom has congestive heart failure and I was thinking that Samoa isn't too far for walking and is near the Great Ceremonial House etc. Just curious. I was thinking Samoa or Raratonga, if that is the name of the building right outside the right side walking out the back of the GCH. Thanks!

Our trip is in a few weeks and I have already put in my request for what we had before, ground floor, Samoa, volcano pool view. I sure hope we get it. We have 3 teen ds and I just think its easier for us with mug runs and pool visits, sometimes dh and I just rest and have an air conditioning break and we leave the slider unlocked and the curtain shut, but after the ds are done swimming, they just walk onto our patio and go into the room, very convenient, also one ds has asthma and if he goes on the slides once too many he might have an asthma attack so I want him to get back into the room asap. I am also going to fax my request, because I did see on a thread that they do still accept and read them at the Poly.

We requested and received this location (Samoa - Ground Floor - Volcano Pool view) all three times. We usually arrive around 9:00 a.m. to check in. Not sure if this helps us get our requests, but last July we got the exact room we requested....1608. ::yes::

The location perfect for us. It is close to the GCH, 25 steps to the pool deck, and close to the Beach. Great atmosphere for sitting on the patio and "soaking" in Disney!

I use to love having a balcony (and still would) but ever since the first time I was put on the ground level I prefer it now. I like to stretch out and not be limited to the balcony. I also do like not waiting for the elevator and being able to walk out to the beach from the room.

Aloha

If we're not staying in an accessible room which means Rapa Nui nor in Hawaii, I just request non-smoking, first floor.

We love being on the first floor. It is also better for us once the buildings are locked in case our DS2 is trying to get back to the room. He sometimes runs ahead of us and if the doors are locked, he can go to the patio door.

When we were first going to the Polynesian in the early '80s, my husband always requested first floor because of my asthma. In the humidity if I was wheezing, he didn't want me to walk up the stairs. We never noticed the elevators! :rotfl2:

WDW Lifelong Fan, we've had 1608 as well. What a great room!

Is the Samoa ground floor room facing the pool a garden view room? Or water view?

Do all the buildings have elevators to the upper floors? My younger DS has hypotonia (among other health problems) and can walk and stand but has stamina issues so he will often be in the stroller. I wouldn't want an upper floor in a bldg without an elevator.

Thanks!

All rooms in Samoa are garden view rooms and both sides face a pool. The only building without an elevator is Niue but it shares the elevator in Rarotonga that is next to it and connected by a deck between the two. All other longhouses have an elevator.

We absolutely love this room. In fact, we have stayed at the Poly too many times to count since inception, and have stayed LV, GV, LVC, GVC, etc...etc...and it may be our favorite room! It is pretty hard to beat LVC when you are looking directly at the Castle....however, this location is a close second place...it makes us feel like we are in the "middle of the Disney Magic"! :goodvibes
