OK so I've decided that I'm going to try some of these recipes at home...and I'm going to start with the french toast loaf b/c it looks easy enough...I'm going to get BF excited about this trip yet!!!

Anywho, When you make the recipes at home do they taste the same as they do in the park? Or do you suffer from Thanksgiving syndrome...where you spend all day preparing-go to eat T-day dinner and it doesnt taste nearly as good as when your mom used to make it...

What are your thoughts...

I have 2 WDW cookbooks & have made a number of things from them. Have yet to have a disaster. If you have a recipe you should be fine.

My French Toast Loaf didn't turn out that great when I made it at home. I don't really know what went wrong.

However, I made LeCellier cheese soup, and it turned out great!

My French Toast Loaf usually turns out pretty good, but you are right. It ALWAYS tastes better eating it at the Main St. Bake Shop! :thumbsup2

I make the sausage bake from Boma every Christmas and it comes out awsome! However, I made the cheese soup from Le Cellier and it was not very good! I don't know what I did wrong. :confused3 I always enjoy trying new things!

I have made the double chocolate chocolate chip cookies and my DGkids and their friends just love them!!!! They always seem better in the World but they are good enough to remind us of our happy place!

I also make the cheese mashed potatoes from the castle but these don't always come out the same way twice!!! :rotfl:

The best though, is the Pene Vodka from Mamma Melrose. This is wonderful!! Everyone just gobbles this up. It tastes as good as if we were really there! pixiedust: pixiedust:

I made the PB&J shake from 50s Prime Time Cafe and it was wonderfull!

Last though, I made the honey corriander wings from Ohana and was not pleased. Just wasn't as light and sweet as I remember and the recipe called for more ginger then I thought was neccessary.

I guess we all have those little disasters in the kitchen...I'm just hoping that I can spice up some of our meals...it seems like we eat the samethings ALL the time!!! I'm so bored that by the time it comes around to dinner I'd rather just pass....I'm soo bored with what I cook all the time...So, I guess I will start adding recipes from our favorite vacation spot and see if he notices any difference (probably not-but here's to hoping)

Anyone else try recipes at home? How'd they come out?

I'm also hoping to weave these into our holiday meals too....

Are these recipes you get off the web or is there a specific WDW cookbook?

I made a few dozen sticky wings from the recipe from Kona at the Poly - brought them to a Super Bowl party and they were a huge hit! They weren't exactly as I remembered Kona's wings to be, but they were really good!

I've made the pot roast from 50's Prime Time Cafe and served it with the cream cheese mashed potatoes from Le Cellier and it all turned out really, really good. :thumbsup2 In fact, my daughter (KristaTX) and I shared the pot roast at 50's PT this past week and we both thought mine is actually a little better! I adjusted a few things, used a smaller roast than called for and less beef broth, and used the baby carrots instead of diced.

Has anyone tried the recipe for 'Ohana bread pudding with banana foster sauce? I love that stuff!

We've made Boma's Potatoes with Afritude, their mushroom soup and a couple of the salads - they all came out well, although they'd be better in Boma's atmosphere!

I asked for, and received, the Crystal Palace puffed french toast and fritatta recipes but haven't tried them yet - that's for next weekend!

Where did you get the Penne alla Vodka recipe? I would love to have that!

I just made Jiko Mac and Cheese for supper tonight for me and my husband...it was delicious. This is a favorite of ours and I make it a few times a year (including for Thanksgiving)...it is always a huge hit.

Here is the recipe:

*4 tbsp flour
*1/2 stick butter
*4 cups of milk
*1 lb elbow macaroni
*1 and 1/2 bags of 4 or 6 cheese blend
*salt

1. Boil the elbow macaroni according to the package directions.

2. In a separate pot, Make a roux with the butter and flour (melt the butter and stir in the flour).

3. Start adding milk 1 cup at a time (add a cup and let it warm up then add another cup...then another...then another) STIR THE ENTIRE TIME

4. Add some salt to taste (by preference)

5. Start adding handfuls of cheese - add a handful and stir until it is all melted - then add another handful... KEEP STIRRING THE WHOLE TIME

6. Grease a large casserole dish. Drain the elbow mac and pour it into the casserole dish. Once all the cheese has been added to the milk mixture and it has a thick creamy consistency - pour the milk/cheese mixture over the elbow mac and stir everything together so it is well mixed.

7. Put it in the oven at around 375 for 15 minutes--after 15 minutes give it a stir - and cook it for another 5 minutes.

8. Serve hot - it is delicious!!

I bought this cookbook last spring at the GF. DD's and I finally got the nerve to try the Sesame Chicken recipe from 9 Dragons, one of our favorite dishes from one of our favorite restaurants. It was awesome! So good we did it again today with shrimp. Also a keeper. Enjoy!

Elfstar,

Which recipe book did you use? I love the Potatoes w/ Afritude! I think I'm going to buy a recipe book during the December trip.

Allears.net has some recipes - I haven't tried them, but you can check there and let us know how they turn out!

Very cool-I have to try the mac and cheese!!! it sounds easy enough and will be another one of those things to get us excited about our trip!!! :cool1:

French Toast loaf is Sunday....maybe I'll do the mac and cheese sunday too...
YUMMY...

OK so I'm convinced...while things might not taste as great as they were in the world they are close...which in the end...makes it worth while!!!

I've tried the Le Cellier Cheddar Cheese soup and it was just like the original...although, after searching for the recipe, I noticed that there are two versions floating around. The one that I thought was really good included a step where you cook the flour/butter mixture before adding the liquid.

We also came up with our own version on O'hana's green beans with red onions, which tastes a lot like the original. Good thing...I think they've stopped serving that side.
