Making payments on your room

I wonder how many people book their room and make payments, perhaps even monthly payments, for their accommodations? It seems like a smart idea, though I've never tried it. We're TRYING to control ourselves and not go again until next October. We've never been to the Food & Wine or the MNSSHP. I thought it might make me "feel better" if I booked the room. That way I could have a trip planned. We usually go in the summer, either May or July. And, we often go again over Thanksgiving for a shorter trip. It's just getting so crazy expensive with the new room rates rules and the discounts seem to be less and less. This might also be a good way to pay for the room and not have to come up with it all at once.

How many of you guys do this? do you send in a monthly payment or I guess you could call in and give it over the phone. Have you ever had any trouble getting the payments posted to your account?

I have more questions. If you have to change your dates, they will transfer the money you've put down to your new reservation, correct?

This is one of the main reasons I use Dreams Unlimited. It is SO easy to make regular payments at their website. We're already halfway paid for our next vacation!

Hi PamNC, I make a weekly payments on line and have done so for quite some time now. Never had a problem with having a payment posted and it shows up on my debit account immediately. If you need to change your dates or resort, that will be the only thing that will change on your reservation. Everything else stays the same such as your ressie number and payments.

We took our DS to the MNSSHP and we loved it. He was the only stitch and when he waited in line for candy, he got so much more than the other children. I kept telling them to please don't that and they said that he was the only stitch that they have seen so he gets more. I ended up giving most of the candy to the concierge people. It's a great time to visit the world. Happy planning.

Oh I do!!! I make my reservations online thru the WDW website, and after they charge you that initial deposit, I start making payments with my debit card. Alot of times its like 20.00 a day (Im self employed, so my money comes a little at a time! LOL). But I always make payments. As a matter of fact last Feb, I had a stressful time cause I hadnt paid it off before my deadline, due to some unexpected financial messiness! So I called and guest services were so nice they helped me by a few days. :cloud9:

But that is they only way me and DH can afford the GF, is to make ressies way ahead and pay them off!

So you booked online thru WDW and were able to make payments. Thats great & answers my question. I thought I had read that one couldn't make payments if booking online - I'm glad thats not true. Can you enter a AAA number to get the discount if booking online?

To the OP - great question. I was wondering this myself and was going to post. I hope you don't mind my extra questions to the posters.

OP here - I don't mind the extra questions on the subject. In fact, I welcome them. The more knowledge the better. ;)

I've never made my ressies on-line, I usually call. But I'll bet I could still go on-line and make payments...that would be a great and easy way to do it. It makes sense to do this, it's just that we're self-employed and sometimes we do have to change our vacation dates. It sounds like that won't be a problem.
What we've been doing is booking about 2-3 months prior and paying for it all at once. Well, the deposit upfront and the remainder when we get there. I think this will be an easier way to handle it. We want to stay at the Poly next year and it's getting so expensive it may be the only way we can do it. Gone are the days of $199 AP rates at the deluxes.

Everyone - keep giving us tips on this subject.

Thanks

My DH is self employed as well. Business is good but getting paid is another story. Very frustrating so I understand the dilemma.

I don't do monthly payments but I do quarterly payments through my TA. I *should* do monthly ones but I've found it easier to do that way. Otherwise I couldn't afford to stay at the Poly. LOL!

Sorry I did forget to say that I booked online as well. The one time I did call and make the ressie I was still able to make payments on line. I too own my own business and completely understand what others are going through. Hope everyone has a great holiday.

BamaTigger we are staying at the GF too. Can't wait.

I totally know about being self employed!! Our credit card sales go straight to our bank account, so thats why I make payments like every day or every other day, sometimes 20.00 a time. Depending on what I can afford. For instance, I booked our trip in May, and just paid it off November 7th...so I had plenty of time to pay it. You should see the payment detail...it is funny...like 50 lines of payments!! :rolleyes1

But, it is paid for, and just knowing that when we check in is a great feeling...now all i have to worry about is my employees showing up on time while Im in the world!!! :scared1:

I totally agree about the great feeling you get when the trip is paid for. I also understand about the employee end of it. My DH and I used to own a landscaping/snow removal business for 23 years and talk about having to worry about employees especially when it snowed. Thank goodness we sold the business back in 2005 and started another. Have a magical trip.

Lots of other self-employed folks - I love it.

I have another question - IF I book my room now and then watch for AP codes or other types of room only codes, can I call and switch my ressie to that discount without any grief?

I'm using a TA for the first time. If you book with a TA can you still make online payments on the Disney Website or do you have to make payments through your TA? I have a Disney Cruise booked and when the 2009 resort rates come out I will be booking a land stay also. Can you put both on your Disney profile and make payments on both?

Hi Becca,
I use DU-They have a payment section on their website. I make a payment, and in a short time, I get a confirmation email that it's been applied. I can review my reservations, see how much I've paid so far, and what my balance is online. It's really easy. I don't know about the system for other TA's.

I plan our vacations almost a year ahead of time. We take 10 day vacations beginning the last couple of days of May. I usually book our vacations in July or August. I look online to get a quote but I book via telephone. Just feel better doing it that way.

After that initial deposit is made, I begin making payments using the disneyworld.com website. The minimum payment is $20.00.

I am a seller on e-bay and, every time I get at least a $20.00 payment, I immediately make a payment on my Disney vacation. I am also a paralegal and the money I make at the law office is contributed towards our regular bills like house payments, private school and college tuition, etc. I love the fact that I can make payments throughout the year and have my whole trip paid for before I even walk into our resort.

So far, I have paid over $2,500.00 on our June, 2008 vacation and that has only been since August, 2007!

Last year, a code came out after I had already paid the initial deposit and begun making payments on the trip. I simply called Disney reservations, told the castmember what I had found and adjustments were made to my reservations. I ended up with a slight room discount for three of our ten days and free ticket upgrades (to water parks and more). The savings was a little more that $350.00! I wouldn't have cared if it saved me just $50.00....I would have still called.

Just to clarify

you go to disneyworld.com
Pay the $200.00 deposit
And you can pay a min. of $20 a week

Is that correct?

The minimum they will allow you pay when you make a payment is $20. For example you could not make a $5 payment on your vacation, but you can make as many $20 and higher payments as you want. Your balance is due 60days out (when you book with Disney, other TA's may have different policies regarding payment schedules). So you can make a $200 deposit and make no payments untill the balance is due or you can make many smaller payments. It is up to you.

It would probably be more financially prudent to set up a savings account and put your money in the savings account and pay Disney just shortly before the due-date of your trip. I'm a big believer in keeping my money (and earning some sort of interest on it!) until I need to give it to some big corporation (so that they can earn interest on it!). :cool2:

I have been undecided on which method to use.......my problem is I am not disciplined, I would probably hit the savings up!! LOL , so if I make payments to disney the money is no longer accessible to me! i am bad with savings and money!

I have one other question.........if I make a reservation now, then I join AAA and there is a discount code, will they apply it. or should I join AAA first before i make the reservation? I am thinking it will save me a good amount for our next trip.

I love this idea and I would do it, BUT I'd be more apt to spend it on something else than the Disney vacation. I just know me. Something will come up and I'll say, "oh well, I'll use this and replenish it."
