Has anyone tried to make the sandwich at home? I think I found the correct recipe for it....

Make Sauce cool [assemble sandwhich]

Currant Jelly Sauce
2/3 c. currant jelly
1 TB water
1 TB half and half
Combine jelly, water and half and half in blender and mix until smooth. Makes about 3/4 cup.

Batter
2/3 c. water
1 small egg
1/2 t. salt
1/8 t. white pepper
few drops yellow food coloring
2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1 3/4 t. baking powder
Place water, egg, salt, pepper and food coloring in a bowl and using an electric mixer, mix well at low speed. Add flour and baking powder and mix until batter is smooth. Chill. Makes enough for 4 sandwiches.

Sandwiches
8 slices white bread
4 slices turkey (1 oz. each)
4 slices swiss cheese
4 slices Pullman ham
Make 4 sandwiches, putting cheese between hand and turkey. Cut into fourths and put a toothpick through each quarter.
Final Preparation:
soybean or vegetable oil for frying
Confectioners' sugar
currant jelly sauce

Recipe

Heat about 6-inches of oil to 340F in a fryer. Dip sandwiches in batter to cover all surfaces. Deep fry sandwiches until golden brown, turning as needed. Remove from oil, take out toothpicks, sprinkle sandwiches with confectioners' sugar. Serve with currant jelly sauce.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried it and how they turned out? Was it similar to the Blue Bayou (minus the fun atmosphere... :goodvibes ) Any tips or tricks? I was thinking this sounded yummy for dinner. I am really craving this sandwich! TIA!

I wish I could make it, but I'm not very good w/ the frier. It sounds too difficult to make. It does sound delicious though!

We tried, but with the batter the sandwich was so heavy it fell to the bottom and stuck to the frier basket. As much as we love the sandwich, we didn't feel it was worth all the work.

jernysgirl...I have the actual Blue Bayou monte cristo recipe and trust me its nowhere near as complicated as what you wrote down:rotfl: ...here it is:

BATTER:

1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. water
1 egg

SANDWICH:

1 oz. sliced white turkey
1 oz. sliced Swiss cheese
1 oz. sliced ham
2 slices white bread
2 tsp. preserves

To make batter sift flour, salt and baking powder together. Add water to beaten egg and then to flour mixture. Mix well and then set aside.
To make sandwich use 1 slice of turkey, Swiss cheese and ham on 2 pieces of white bread. Then cut into quarters using toothpicks to hold sandwich together. Dip sandwiches in egg batter completely and deep fry at 360 degree oil until golden brown. Remove toothpicks and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with raspberry preserves compote...

for the preserves I just put a jar of them in a sauce pan and warm on low until the preserves are liquidy enough to put in little dipping bowls...

ive made this more times that I can count and they taste exactly like BB's and CO's MC sandwich...now I dont have to go to get them when Im at disneyland....I can actually go somewhere else instead lol

enjoy:thumbsup2

Maybe I'll make this to convince my bf to order it at the BB (so I can have a bite :goodvibes )

Thanks for the update! I actually found that recipe in searching online. We actually decided to do something different for dinner last night, but I will definitely save your recipe to make another night!

Did you ask for the recipe there? It never occurred to me to ask for recipes (I don't know why), but someone had mentioned that you can ask for any recipe in the park at City Hall... maybe we should start a thread that just has recipes from the park. YUM! popcorn::
