You probably will not qualify for a new credit card if you're not making enough money to pay anthing extra towards your hospital bill.

You should call the hospital's billing department and explain your situation. Try to set up a payment plan that you can live with, even if it's only $5/month. At least it shows a willingness to try to meet your obligation.

Then start selling things on Craigslist and ebay. Try shopping at yard sales and thrift stores for items that you can sell for more than you paid for them. Look for some gold in your jewelry box to sell. Offer to babysit on New Year's Eve for a young couple that might want to get out to celebrate.

Well after rent (living at home), and food (pb and j) theres usally some left over but not enough to make the $50 payment they want.

look around the house and start listing things on craigslist (or ebay). I prefer craigslist - it's so easy to do, no fees and no shipping hassle!

We've made a lot of money just by selling this/ that from around the house things that we're not using and would normally donate or just have cluttering the house.

call the hospital and tell them you don't have the $50 payment each month, but you can pay $x amount ($5, $10)... and make sure you pay it.

I'm with the posters who say to talk to the hospital. Most hospitals are very willing to work with patients with billing.

As for making extra money, how about cleaning houses, babysitting, or shoveling snow? For instance, I'm pregnant and my husband has a back injury, so we're going to have to hire someone to shovel. If someone turned up on my doorstep after a storm, shovel in hand, offering a reasonable price to shovel my walkways and paths (we have a plow for the driveway) I would hire them in a moment!

I was wondering same thing im trying to come up with extra cash to put away for down payment on car in a yr or 2 lol so im always looking for new and creative ways.. I already coupon, and buy at sales for are personal use I do have garage sales 1 a year and do pretty good there and consign clothes, again.. pretty good but i cant do the CL thing casue Im home mostly alone and dont like the idea of selling stuff online and having people over to look. garage sale i aways have someone with me.. I make extra cash by dong various reward programs online for cash money. Okay it might50 a month for one program. But you probably string together them get to get 50 dollars a month. I do swagbucks. i just do the videos, watch swagtv, games. i cash out every for 5 dollar paypal gift card, somtimes twice a week if I get amazon gift cards. i find swagbucks easy reward program .ever.

You can do surveys on quickrewerds.net for surveys too make money on line.

I do bunch of them. i have 600.00 dollars this year a lone from various reward programs and I love it.

I pick on cans out the parking lot and cash them in too. I also collect mycoke reward points for free when I see coke caps on the ground.

It can be done if have time and patients. i do because it relaxs me and I can do why the kids are a sleep too.

Ask the hospital about a free or charity care program. You may be approved retroactively for free or heavily discounted services. I am not sure where you live but NJ has law that hospitals can only charge self pay clients the medicare fee schedule and many hospitals have internal and state charity care. It would be worth a try, especially if you are under employed.

Hope this helps,

hospital wont work with me, already tried. Just listed stuff on ebay and so such. As far as snow, We have none! I live in wisconsin and there no snow! Im waiting for the snow cause Im helping with a plow buiness this year to make some cash

I don't think I'd take "no" for an answer. Keep calling. Ask to speak to a higher up. Tell them exactly what you CAN afford to pay and keep asking until they accept that. Use Dave Ramsey's line: "That's not good enough."

Bold - That is true if the patient is the one who initiates the conversation when the original bill arrives. This was from over a year ago. They will most likely put it into collections.

For CL you don't have to have someone come to your house - we meet in public places for our CL sales (except for one really large item - person had to come to the house but we had it in the garage and dh was home). Yesterday I met 3 different people in an Arby's parking lot. It is so rewarding to sell things you're not using and make $$$ - it's probably not for everyone but I'm loving it and it paid for our APs this year!

Untrue.

Hospitals are notorious for being way behind with their billing. An unpaid balance from a year back is not unheard of. I just got a bill for what the hospital thought was an unpaid copay from 3/01/11. It turned out that their records were wrong (I had receipts from every payment). But I asked them about any other potential problems that could be looming on the horizon with other outstanding balances and I was informed that they were still working with my insurance over reimbursements for February of 2011!

No, they won't necessarily turn it over to collections. But if they already have because the OP was billed several times and chose not to make payment arrangements, then I agree that it could be in collections. If that's the case, the OP will be arguing with those people until she is blue in the face. They want their money and they will pester her until they get it all.

If you want to sell on CL, you can always have people meet you at a neutral location, like a local store or post office parking lot. I think that's safer.

I have sold and purchased items off CL and have always met in a neutral location.

However, even doing that is making me a bit wary after reading this police report of an incident where I live in September.

Long story short: Older gentleman finds an IPad for sale on CL, meets the seller at a parking lot of a busy grocery store to complete the transaction, seller gets in buyer's car and robs buyer at gunpoint.

Pretty thoughtful crime...the criminal knew the victim would have a wad of cash to purchase the item.

Obviously it's very RARE that something like this happens...things are bought and sold from CL all the time...
