Making a Musket Mickey Flag - ideas?

Hi All,

We've been watching the sing along DVD that is at the Fort and DS right away picked up on the fact that Mickey has a musket on the sign in the video (he's all boy...everything is a musket/blaster/pistol these days...sticks, pieces of bark, sandwiches, the bubbles he produces in the potty :rolleyes1 Yeah, ALL BOY)

Anywho...I'm sure he'll be disappointed when we get there an there's no Musket Mickey to welcome us, so I thought that it might be fun to make a flag to fly at our site. Any ideas on how to make one? Does anyone have a great image of Musket Mickey to send me to use? Anyone make something like this already?

I'm thinking I could do the color iron-on ink jet paper you use for t-shirts. That has worked well for us in the past, but I'm not sure how it holds up to the elements, esp. the FL sun. Well, I guess our tees held up, and held up to the wash machine, so I guess that should work. But I think I'd need some fabric with a bit of cotton content so it accepts the iron on. Hmm...

Anyway, any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the fabric store and buy ripstop nylon or something similar. The people who work in the fabric store will tell you the best fabric to use for your project. Just tell them what you want to make. Good luck!

I believe you are right that standard iron on material is formulated for 100% cotton material. But I also agree with Nana that ripstop nylon would make a better flag since it is quite light to wave more readily, and it won't get water-logged like cotton. Avery sells a stretchable iron on that is especially formulated for rayon/poly blends, and I suspect it would work well for nylon as well. It's worth a look.

KristenU..... Is that an A-Liner in your avitar?? If I were alone (no DH) that's what I would have!!! They're a neat camper!!

Thanks guys! I'll let you know what I come up with. PrincessNana and Shan-man, great suggestions on the fabric and the iron on stuff. I'll see if I can find the lower tem stuff for synthetics. I still need to do a search to find a good image as well. I have a busy week coming up, but next weekend I should be able to get to the AC Moores/JoAnn/Michael's circuit to see what I can come up with. Hmmm...I could paint him on, huh???

There's also a triangular yellow flag in that video that is the classic 3-circle icon that looks like cut tree stumps (does that make sense??? - the circles look like the wood from cut trees). I may try making one of those as well.

And, yes des1954, that's our Aliner :) I know its small compared to the rigs most of the folks around here have (except Carol's T@B :thumbsup2 which was on our short list ), but its just perfect for us. We have a little blog going if you're interested: www.alineradventures.blogspot.com No updates since August, since weather foiled our plans a couple of times this fall! Well, we did stay in "Camp Driveway", but we don't blog that - LOL!

Kristen, I have uploaded two huge Musket Mickeys to my download page for you. They are in PNG format, so the backgrounds will be transparent, but if you need a different format let me know. Enjoy!

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd update this thread with my "flag"...which has turned into a signpost, LOL!

Thanks Shan-man for the Musket Mickey images! I have him in a little wooden log cabin.

DH and I both think the project turned out pretty cool :thumbsup2 Of course after I was all done DS asked where our individual names were - oh well, next time!
