Can one of you good cooks tell me what I can substitute for cooking oil in the cake I'm making?

And yes, its from a box:rolleyes: but the frosting is from scratch! :thumbsup2

But I only have 1/2 of the cooking oil I need, so can I substitute crisco or olive oil? Or another egg maybe?

(yes, I'm cooking challenged )

Or do I really need to go to the store or call a neighbor?

TIA!

Yes.yes.yes. applesauce. It really works well.:thumbsup2

Applesauce or apple butter.
Canned pumpkin also works great!

you also could have used the olive oil. Unless it was a really strong one, it won't alter the taste. The heating process destroys it.

I have also used a stick of butter or margarine instead. It makes a much richer cake but it is yummy. Beat it for just a while longer than on the box to get some air into it.

Maybe, but my kids once made brownies and used olive oil (extra virgin) by accident, and we actually had to throw them out. They were truly horrible.

Applesauce is actually a recommended substituion to cut fat in baked goods. :thumbsup2

Whenever I make boxed cake, I use a can of soda. That is it! The cake mix and soda. If it is a light colored cake I use a can of sprite, a dark cake either coke or pepsi. No need for eggs or oil or anything else and it always tast nice and moist!

Don't use olive oil!!!

MIL did this once and the kids wouldn't even eat it. Gross!

BTW - we didn't even know what happened - the cake was just gross - we found out later she couldn't find the vegetable oil.

sub all oil for applsauce and a little extra water to make the cake smooth like with using oil. Add water after all else is mixed up.
