making a background transparent

I want to use this...

is there a way to just select the white in the background or do I have to "color" in for lack of a better term with the background eraser thingymabob...and thank you everyone so much for your patience and for answering my questions while I try to figure out this program

I am not sure what you are trying to do. Are you trying to just get the Mickey and erase the white background?

If so, as Dom13 was saying in the other thread. Choose the eraser tool, make sure th magic eraser tool is chosen (the one with the eraser with the white starburst thing next to it), then click anywhere on the white background and it will erase the white background. You may need to change the tolerance number if it does not erase enough (or too much).
