Try a VERY light dusting of finishing powder Make Up Forever has a very nice one. But just use the lightest touch.

Sadly tinted moisturize is not enough for me.

Now to the BUDGET question - what is I find these items on other sites for a better price that Sephora? For instance:
- Peter Thomas Roth Firmx peeling gel is $48 on Sephora but $28.80 on Jet.com - same size
- His CC cream is $48 at Sephora & $27.00 at Overstock

And better pricing is on eBay. How do I know if it is the "real thing" & not expired? Any place you all shop for the good stuff at a great price?

Sometimes. If I want a more matte look I do. But I use a powder brush with my pressed powder (not that sponge pad thing that comes with it) and use VERY little. Just enough to take the shine away.

Make sure you try the Garnier BB cream I recommended on the first page (only if you have really dry skin though - like me!). I just looked up the reviews on it and many are saying it's better than the expensive BB creams (which I haven't bothered to try because I love Garnier too much).

I was using a $59 foundation that I USED to love... until I hit menopause. Sadly, I can't use it anymore... but my wallet thanks me because now I only spend $12 for Garnier, lol!

Young skin looks moist and fresh. Old skin looks dry and powdery. A matte finish is not your friend.

If you really feel like your skin looks oily, just use a blotting sheet.

I'm 55 and do not use foundation. I hate the heaviness. What I do use is either bb or cc cream. I bought IT cc cream a couple of weeks ago at Ulta and I love it. It's not cheap ($38) but it does what it says it does. Great coverage and not greasy at all.

I've tried Garnier, Boot #7 and Neutrogena and the only one I can stand is Neutrogena, but IT is a lot better. Garnier doesn't spread very well and I've tried makeup sponges and foundation brushes.

I'm 53 and have been really happy with the IT cosmetics CC cream. It's very light feeling and natural looking. It also has 50 SPF. One tip, a little goes a long way. It is expensive but you use very little. I also like the concealer, it might be more important that foundation to even things out.

Does anyone with sensitive skin find the BB creams more difficult (due to irritation) than a regular foundation etc? I have enjoyed seeing all this advice in this post and despite only being 30 I have been thinking that I may need to change up my routine due to dryness. The challenge I have is that any tinted moisturiser etc is more likely to irritate my skin than a product just designed to sit on the surface and not sink in. I have come to discover that I have to use all the hypoallergenic plain moisturisers and don't get irritation from foundation etc as it is not designed to 'act' on the skin.

Sorry to hijack, just curious and also noted that the OP had sensitive skin like mine is. OP also asked about sunscreen, makeup etc in the parks. I would love to hear this advice too as I like a little make up so I look better in the photos (not so washed out pale and tired) but would normally reapply sunscreen throughout the day.

IDK - but I like Sephora for trying new things, they will help you in the store,and apply it,and give samples! I just tell them straight up I am looking for things that work for women of a certain age and not for teenagers, let's face it, the ads and models are about 12 years old, but the bread and butter of a makeup store like Sephora is middle aged women looking for a little pick me up for their face,with the money to spend on it!
For sun care I use neutrogena liquid face sunscreen, it's like water in a small bottle,and I don't reapply during the day,once I layer other stuff on it,it stays. (becca primer for t-zones makes that happen)

to a pp, I can't use bb/cc things,WAY too oily for my skin.... even in winter I have to be careful about foundation.... I also have to use SPF separately, can't have it in my makeup or I break out....in summer I use a bit of concealer where needed and bare minerals powder....with some primer layered underneath (monistat)

I went to Ulta as I just started wearing make-up at 46. I looked for a consultant who wore make-up to what I think looks pretty to me. No heavy caked on make-up. She spent time with me and taught me how to do it.

Im in my late 30s and I go to Sephora all the time. They have a machine they will take to your face to do a color test and help you that way. I love Sephora. Its the only place I go. My Ulta is horrible

If you're using the right powder and brush, then setting powder won't make you look dry and powdery unless you're really caking it on, especially for oily skin. Blotting sheets can sometimes blot away the makeup along with the oil!

OP, it can take ages and lots of experimenting to find the perfect foundation/BB/CC cream. I'd suggest googling for reviews for your skin type and trying some out, especially if you can get sample sizes. I always use moisturizer with SPF AND foundation with SPF and don't reapply during the day unless I'm outside all day during the summer like at the beach or at Disney. By then, my face will have melted off anyway so it doesn't matter if I have to slather on additional sunscreen. I'm past the point of looking good by then anyway.

Ok - have a bunch of samples, all but one is making my right eye tear (yes, only the right!) & my nose run a bit. I think I will try garnier too.

For those like me who need even more sun protection while in the sun look at Supergoop. You just spray it on your face even with makeup on. There are powders you can use over ur makeup, but they can change the color of your makeup. I know someone who works at a Ren Faire , has fair skin & swears by it.

Hi!! I also have dry skin and I feel that if my skin isn't properly moisturized, my foundation will not look good. I use Avedthe a products and absolutley love them. I use the Aveda bonatical kinetics instense hydrating rich creme under my foundation. I then use Bobbi Brown foundation and then reapply some of the aveda moisturizer around my eyes.

You asked about reapplying sunscreen over make up. My dertamtologist told me about this product:

Colorscience Prosun Mineral Powder Brush SPF 50

The brush fills up with the powder and you simply powder your face to reapply sunscreen. It's a little pricey but worth it for great skin!
