Makeup - Budget or Splurge?

I think there are great finds to be found in both budget and splurge purchases, if you know what you are looking for. I do find higher end stuff to usually have more variety and better quality, but it isn't a given by any means.

With drugstore brands, I tend to have better luck with Wet N Wild Icon Trios, Physician Formula "knock-offs" like Shimmer Strips and the highlighter pearls, NYX, and Milani.

I do have a preference for MAC, Urban Decay, Tarte, and Make Up For Ever for most things.

i love double wear by Estee Lauder its light weight i love it also Clarins used it long time since im european used their skin care many years its good but expensive but its really a matter of personaL taste what is good on one person may not work well for someone else.

I've recently learned my lesson about cheap makeup.

I decided to try Great Lash Mascara (pink tube) a couple of weeks ago. I know it's been around forever and was under $5 so I thought I'd give it a try. I used it for about 4 days when my eyes started swelling, itching and flaking. It's taken over a week for the swelling to finally go away. I googled "Great Lash allergy" and it turns out this is a fairly common problem with this mascara.

I'm usually fine with drugstore mascara, but this stuff was horrible!!!

I've used it for years with no problem....wonder what's in it that you and so many others react to?

Skin care: splurge all the way. I am a Mary Kay girl. My skin feels horrible when I stop using it.

Makeup: budget... whatever I have a coupon for or whatever is on sale... the difference goes in my "Saving for Disney" box! :lmao:

I thought I had to have expensive make-up until I became budget conscious about 10 years ago. Now that I care more about my bank account than my vanity, I use drug store brands.

There is no difference in how I look with the department store stuff versus the bargain stuff - I was just sucked into the advertising and hype. I wish I could have all that money back that I spent for years on that fancy, over-priced crap!

I use Eucerin Everyday Protection face lotion, Cover Girl Simply Power (powder foundation), Cover Girl concealer, and Cover Girl eye shadow (I use the dark brown instead of an eye pencil).

Instead of lip stick, I use the 99 cent lip pencils from Walgreens under Vaseline Lip Therapy - it looks like a sheer glossy lipstick and stays on well.

I use L'Oreal Voluminous waterproof mascara - it's excellent!

That's it! Believe me, I look no different since making the switch, and I've saved a ton of money! I stock up whenever I find a sale and combine it with coupons - there are almost always coupons available, especially for Cover Girl.

I"m a huge makeup junkie I've been one my entire life. I'll say different foundations and powders work with different skin. I think for asian complexions Shisado and Chanel are the best. Most fair skin tones can work with BE and clinique if your ethnic I'd go with Mac, Tarte, BE. Personally I love tempt spray on foundation and I follow up with either BE mineral veil or Tarte amazon clay powder.

I think products can be found in all budgets. It helps to know who owns what company like If I'm not mistaken clinique and avon, estee lauder come from the same house as chanel and bourgeois are one house. It helps to know your houses if your going to by pharmacy or less expensive brands. I do think the quality changes for some items not all.

Quick list of bests for me.

Eye liner Tarte Clay liner
Lipstick Chanel or Givinchy
Shadow Pallete Urban Decay, Chanel and Mac
Blush Nars, Chanel
