I think it's a creative idea. Way more artsy that I am capable of!

I doubt she made it so her kid could stand out in a crowd. It sounds like he thought all the Mickey shirts were "uncool," so she made him one that he liked. I think it is very creative and a fun and sweet thing for a mom to do for her child.
