Make Your Own Gifts! Ideas Please!!

ok, i am LOVING the coaster idea! i really liked the coasters that someone posted (probably you, i cant remember?) anyway the ones where you put a picture on them BUT they seemed a little complicated with lots of steps. i think i could handle the ones that are just stamped! i actually like the look of them before the butterfly so that even eliminates another step for me! :goodvibes

so you just buy these tiles at lowes or home depot? are they already cut and ready to go?

Yep, I did already post that somewhere else - I think a Christmas thread.

I got my tiles at Lowes for 30 cents each with tax. The stamped ones are super easy! And you can personalize them so much - Archivers and Michaels have tons of $1 stamps, you could get one for each person.

Here's one that I do about every year that seems to be a real hit :

Go to the dollar store and buy a cheap cutting board, if they don't have one then go get one from walmart for about 3.00, and buy a cutting knife. Make a loaf banana nut bread or pumpkin bread, what ever you like and wrap the loaf on the cutting board and throw in a cutting knife on the side and wrap all together and it makes a really nice gift.

I really love these type of threads and Christmas will be here before you know it!

Homemade bath salts are very easy to make. I put mine in used applesauce jars, and decorate the lid with a circle of gingham cut with pinking shears and tied with a ribbon. They sell well at craft sales too.

how do you make the bath salts - I'd love to make them - you can PM me if you'd like

I mix 2 cups epsom salts with 2 tablespoons baking soda in a large stainless steel bowl. (It's not necessary, you can use glass, but I make large batches at a time, so I quadruple this recipe.) Sometimes I scent it with essential oils, and sometimes I tint it with food colouring- just a few drops of each. Some people are very sensitive about such things. You may want to delete the oils and colourings. Put it in your clean jars, put on lid, put glue on lid, and place a circle of gingham or calico on top. Tie with a ribbon. I also went to google images and got a picture of a lady in an old fashioned tub, made labels and glues them on as well.

Love this idea! Christmas Tree Shop has really nice bamboo cutting boards that are $1.00 and would be the perfect size for this!

How bout a crafty christmas ornament (something to do with your class subject) and 1 or 2 McD coupons (can buy a book of 5 certificates for $5) stuffed into it somehow? I have given those away in valentine cards....big hit with all age groups:goodvibes

You can also add teaspoons of powdered milk to create a milk bath version.

I love the coaster idea,
To those who have done it. Does the brand of ink matter?

I was thinking of getting the tiles and having the kiddos paint on the tiles, then seal them. Do you think it would work?

Great thread!

Take a clear glass ornament--I've seen them sold in packs of 6 at AC Moore and Wal Mart for a few dollars. Pour in some popcorn kernals and microwave just long enough for the popcorn to pop. Tie with a pretty ribbon.

We received a cute thing of hot chocolate mix that was made to look like an ice cream cone. It looks easy to make. Here's an example. http://www.designswithheart.net/jar_gifts/HotCreamCones.html

One year I made suet bird feeders out of a 1 X 8 cedar board and some hardware cloth. I just built a frame out of the cedar, cut the hardware cloth to the size of a brick of bird suet, and stapled it to the frame. Hung it by a rope and decorated with pine cones and millet heads. I could have made the suet myself but found it on sale for 44 cents a brick at Christmas. It made cute gifts for the bird lovers in the family.

I am reading the old threads now...and I can't find it, but someone posted about making a chocolate bowl and chocolate covered oreos and wrapping them up. The bowl was made with melted chocolate over a balloon....anyone recall that?
