Let me start off by saying that I am not against smokers. I used to smoke and my Husband still does. I think you'll understand when I tell you what happened.

My family and I took our first ever trip to IOA this past weekend. It was beautiful and everyone was having a great time. I was waiting for my husband and son to get off the Hulk. (Daughter was too short!) We were at a wonderful spot where we could see the Hulk up close. It's kinda off to the back across from Spiderman. It's right on the water. Well, we were the only ones there except for another couple. The man was standing at the rail smoking a cigar and the woman was about 5 feet away from him looking towards the street. All of a sudden I smelled pot! I looked at the guy and saw him smoking marijuana! My daughter is only 7 and doesn't know what that is or what it smells like. I followed them to Dr. Doom's freefall and told the gentleman working there that the couple that had just entered the ride had just been smoking pot. He said he would report it to security and he asked if I could come back in 10 minutes so I could talk to them. I gave him a description of the couple and what they were wearing. I met my family when they got off the ride and told my husband to watch the kids so I could go talk to the security person. Here's where I really got upset. The security guard told me there was nothing they could do! I told him the guy put the rest of it in his pants pocket. But, they had no reason to search him. My word was not good enough. If they can't keep track of the people and what they are smoking, they should have special smoking areas.
Sorry if I rambled on, but that just really upset me. It really makes you wonder. It seems that it does no good to report someone that is doing something against the law, because no one wants to do anything about it.

I couldn't agree more or if not that, at least designate areas for it. I can't tell you how many time I nearly backed into a lit cigarette or someone with one in thier hand nearly burned some kid. I never searched out areas of smokers to stand by but invariably if I stood in one place for too long I would be enveloped in smoke. When asked during a survey what I would change I told them I thought this one was a biggy.

the same thing happened to us at WDW. It wasin MK near the rafts that go over to the Island. I found a security guard but he was more interested in wanting to know how did I know the guy was smoking marijuana. DH and I both smelled it and we both wanted somethign done. Something like this happened at a local amusement park too. No alcohol was allowed there and I saw a couple of guys sitting in a lightly wooded area with a cooler full of it drinking away. It was right between the 2 main paths so everyone who was in the park would have to walk by them at some point. They took care of it right then.

I agree. I wish they would make it a nonsmoking park. Actually the smell of a cigarette bothers more than anything else. It's just disgusting, especially with all the kids around. I thought Disney was non-smoking? Is it new that people are allowed to smoke there?
