Make ressie now and sub developer points later?

Ok,
I don't want to be sleazy or abuse the system but since I have heard so many people posting on the site that they were able to substitute developer points for current reservations, I was thinking...
Do you think it is possible to make a June 2008 ressie using 2007 banked points and 2008 points and then when 7 months out hits, call MS and have them modify the reservation to use developer points instead?
The more I read on this board, the more I worry that I will be stuck with left over developer points (which I can't bank) and a ressie I don't want or none at all if I wait until 7 months out.
Do you really think that getting a ressie at 7 months out for June 15-23 will be that difficult?
Do you think my logic is sleazy with regards to swapping points at 7 months.
Do you think Disney will allow this?

Only if there is room availability at the 7 month mark, otherwise it would obviously defeat the purpose of the 11 month priority window. In essence, it would be cancelling and rebooking. I don't think finding availablility right at the 7 month mark will be that difficult, as long as you aren't too picky about which resort, or room class (value, BW view, Standard view, etc.)

I think that logic will work great, as long as all your dates fall within the respective time frame windows. When MS swaps out existing reservations for ones used with regular points they DO NOT cancel the reservation and re book. That is why they must do the procedure by hand, thus taking longer wait times for confirmation letter than normal. Just remember not to "freak out" after you swap your developer points, that your reservation will not show up on the website, and when you call MS you must refer to the reservation as one being used with developer points or they won't see it on their initial screen. From my experience, having used developer points for new reservations and swapping them for existing ones, the process is more tideous than making normal reservations, but well woth it in that banking your current years points will keep you ahead of the game for at least a few years. I don't think getting a ressie for that time period at 7 months should be THAT difficult. As Chuck said, you might not be able to be too picky, but I'm sure you will find something available. It isn't a holiday week.
