I just booked my flight out using Air Canada and now I don't feel so good. I just keep hearing their service is horrible. But they were $200 cheaper then anyone else. Tell me it's going to be OK.

You shouldn't have any problems. I use them to fly a lot and have very rarely had a problem with the airline itself.

I would not say consistently horrible it is however hit and miss. Our flight down to Orlando on AC in Feb..."now that was horrible". We did however resolve that with them and received a 500 dollar voucher which we redeemed for our flights to LAX next month. For our flights to Orlando in April we booked Westjet and honestly we have loyalty to whoever is going to offer us the best deal!

If you don't mind can your explain the horrible experience that you had.

I've flown with A/C on all of my trips to Orlando and haven't had any problems yet (knock on wood). I'm hoping to try Southwest one of these days but my fiance doesn't like the idea of driving 2 hrs to get to the airport.

My DH agrees especially if we get snow, he won't go over the night before, would rather pay to spend an extr night is disney :goodvibes but he is leery about delays at border, snow storms more severe in Buffalo..etc:scared:

We flew Air Canada from Calgary to Orlando in September. The only issue we had was when the flight attendants determined that there was a "medical emergency" that necessitated the cabin lights being turned on for our 12:30am flight. The "medical emergency" was a grown man with low blood sugar who ate something then felt better but no one on the plane could sleep cause the lights were on. The Toronto-Orlando flight actually had seatback tvs with on demand movies and tv shows for free!

Re: Flight 1200, YYC to MCO

On February 6th our family of five boarded flight 1200 to Orlando. Check in and boarding was efficient and easy. We were informed before departure that there was no water available on this flight. We were also unable to not get coffee or tea. A minor annoyance but annoying none the less. As it turned out this would become a huge annoyance.
It was not until we had reached cruising altitude that we realized we had a problem. We were seated in rows 25 and 26. The fold out trays on three out of five seats were broken. It was almost a five hour flight and we had unusable trays. The implications of this were:

1. In row 25 one out of three trays were broke and in row 26 both of our trays were broke and unable to hold any liquids or meals.
2. Our children were unable to use the trays for entertainment purposes.

No card playing, no DVD watching, no appropriate ability to eat or drink, no coloring etc in row 26. My husband and son had two working trays and shared those between the three of them. Still it was difficult when it came to eating, drinking etc! Our oldest son and youngest son switched seats so the oldest could balance the tray on his lap. The three trays were broken so badly that anything placed on them slid right off into our lap. We brought it to the stewardess attention and the best they could do as offer a blanket and pillow pack to be placed on our laps to support the corner of the broken tray and attempt to hold it up ourselves for the entire duration of the flight. The plane was full and they did the best they could. Even the slightest movement in our seat caused the whole pillow blanket balancing system to fall apart. All three of our kids were absolutely soaked to the skin from their drinks spilling on them. We had to pass drinks back and forth between rows switching off holding them since our row 26 seats had both trays broken and no place to put our drinks while we stood to use the washroom. This was absolutely unacceptable.
Just when we had the pillow blanket system perfectly balanced and working on our laps, the plane hit the tail end stream of another jet. This was literally like hitting an air pothole. You guessed it. All the drinks that we had carefully balancing on our pillow tray system went flying and landed directly in our laps.

I was under the assumption that snacks were still offered on flights. During this flight my children were never offered anything to snack on.

We were offered to purchase a meal. We were shown a card to choose from. Unfortunately most items were not available for purchase and we were left with 4 choices. By the time they got to our row it was down to two choices. We ended up ordering the beef on a bun. Now we do not expect fine dining by any means but we do expect acceptable edible food. What we were served was so inedible it was appalling. The bun on which it was served on had sat so long our kids could not even bite into the bun (it was rock hard). We ended up eating the middle (the meat). Messy to say the least. As we were trying to eat this “meal” our meal kept sliding off the pillow blanket balancing tray system in our laps. So to go along with all the drinks spilled on us, our shirts and slacks had bbq sauce stains on them from everything sliding onto our clothing.
It was at this time we really needed that unavailable water. The washrooms were full and we had no water to try and clean ourselves off. Finally the steward came around with bottled water and cups and some of us were able to wash ourselves and the kids were able to use the washroom.

We cannot express our incredible disappointment.
In the past we have dealt with lost luggage, delayed flights, airplanes broken down on the tarmac with Air Canada. Things can and do happen. Broken and falling apart trays, soaken wet and stained clothing, the inconvenience to five passengers is absolutely unacceptable. What a terrible way to start off a family vacation. We paid for five seats and got 2 working ones.

What we endured on this flight was completely unacceptable. I would like to know what Air Canada is prepared to do about this really unfortunate and unacceptable experience.

If you were happy when you booked your flights, let it go. You'll drive yourself crazy. What's the worst that can happen? It's only a 2 hour flight.

So - stop reading any more threads about airlines and remember that you're going to have a great trip. :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing. That sounds like quite a trip.

I know I just like to worry about everything it's in my nature.

If I can avoid taking an Air Canada flight, I will. I've heard nothing but bad stories about them from people I know.

For example, a friend of mine who is a musician and used to travel by Air Canada on his tours, will never fly Air Canada again. On a flight he took last year to the UK, Air Canada left his luggage and expensive musical instruments on a cart on the tarmac in the rain after they were unloaded from the plane, resulting in damaged instruments. On the same trip, a flight of his was cancelled, 'causing him to miss a connecting flight home. The airline wold not reimburse him at the time, so he had to pay for another ticket home. After many calls, emails and letters of complaint to Air Canada about what happened to him, he was given only a $500 credit(which was very difficult to apply). The $500 did not cover the ticket he had to buy or the repair of his damaged instruments.

So... I say "No" to Air Canada!

Air Canada, Air transat whoever....they all have good days and bad...I have flown so many different airlines all over the world and they all have their own problems really.
We just choose to fly out of buffalo this time because the cost was 900 return including taxes for our family of 4 for march break and the cheapest I could get out of toronto was 3 thousand!!! Not kidding.
The drive to Toronto airport is definitely easier but the parking is more expensive and the to-do at the airport is a million times worse. Coming home we can jump right off the flight and leave buffalo airport because we haven't left the country and then clearing at the border is easy. I am SURE that if we had a flight landing in Buffalo and Toronto at the same time we would get home quicker from BUffalo even with the extra 1 1/2 hour driving.
We are staying extra nights at disney with our savings on flights!!!

Air Canada will be what it will be....if you saved money that's the main thing....yeah for you.

That's all fine and dandy however a good majority of us do not have or want this option so it is always good to discuss airlines within Canada also.

True not all have the option of flights out of the U.S but the OP is from Toronto so I replied to the poster not everyone else.
It was just my opinion and my reasons for flying out of Buffalo....trying to give options to others who may think it not worthwhile....

Air Canada is the largest airline in Canada, by a very wide margin.

While every airline has it's pluses and minus', AC has a number of pluses:

1) Because they are a large airline, they have numerous maintenance facilities across Canada -- useful in case your specifc plane requires maintenance. They have lots of spare parts close by.

2) If your plane becomes disabled, they usually have some spare planes close by (so you probably won't be delayed for a long time)

3) In the event of weather problems, your delay can be managed easier (due to the size of their fleet).

4) Usually AC has multiple flight times per day, to most locations

While you may see a number of complaints about AC, this may be because they are the largest airline. A 5% complaint rate on AC will mean more people complaining, as they have more passengers....

To be honest, most flights from TO to MCO are 2.5 hours (it'd have to be a pretty bad flight to affect 2.5 hours of your life). If AC has the best rate, go for it!!! The most important thing is you are going to Orlando.

I think using Air Canada is fine, especially when you get a better price :)

That being said, it has been probably good 3 or 4 years since I last flew with them. My last experience with them wasn't overly positive (long story, I simply caught them on a REALLY bad day), but I have flown with them many times prior to that (for both long and short haul flights) without any problems.

The reason why I don't fly with them at the moment is because they do not offer too many direct flights to major Canadian cities from the airport here.

Relax! Afterall, you are going on a vacation! ;)

I have had so many unsatisfactory experiences with Air Canada, I avoid them unless I have no other choice (last minute flight to Edinburgh for a family funeral for example). Since discovering AirTran, Southwest and Buffalo Airport, I haven't even been to Pearson Airport. I would much rather drive for 1 1/2 hours and chance the border crossing (never a delay longer that 30 minutes - we leave very early in the am for a 6 am flight). I have never had a truly bad experience on either AirTran or Southwest. Even when we had to change planes in Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta (currently the busiest airport in the world) the gates were set up in such a way that we left one flight from gate 1 and boarded our next at gate 6 in the same terminal.
We just seem to have better luck all around when not travelling Air Canada.

Maybe we've been exceptionally lucky but we've only had problems with Air Transat. I would refuse to fly with them now even if it was free. While we fly almost exclusively out of Buffalo now, I can't say that we've ever experienced a bad flight on any of the other carriers we've used. That includes not only Air Canada, but British Airways, Skyservice, West Jet, Southwest, Air Tran, Delta and several others that are no longer in business. Maybe my expectations are low enough that I rarely feel disappointed. :confused3
