I posted this on disABILITIES! but thought someone here could help me, too. I am 15, and I have medical problems. This week, I was refered to a local Wish Granting organization by a Child Life specialist at my hospital (I'm getting my medications changed).

I have seen many trip reports and other posts about Wish trips to Disney. Even though I am not planning on a Disney wish, I was wondering if anyone could describe the whole process for me. Thanks!

Hi Ella.

My son is 15 and we are going to Disney/GKTW with Make A Wish November 5-11. He has epilepsy that has not responded to any treatments. We first applied for his wish last August... I had never even thought about him being eligible for a wish. I was discussing some of our health and financial issues with a coworker, and was excited to win some tickets to Carowinds (amusement park on the NC/SC border) so we would afford to take our kids somewhere last summer. My coworker broached the subject of MAW, and I decided to check it out. I applied online and was contacted by the state office a few weeks later. The state office sent the forms to Cody's doctor and we were approved within a couple more weeks. We were supposed to go on our trip in April and then June, but had to reschedule because of my dh's health problems.

I have gotten very involved with our local MAW office and have gone to some public appearances. I am so thankful that we are being given such a wonderful gift that I want to give back in any way that I can.

When we met our wish granter/volunteer, he interviewed Cody by himself to ensure that Cody was expressing his own wish without any pressure. Cody told me later that he knew he could have asked for just about anything, but he really wanted something that his brother and mom and dad could share with him.

I hope this answers some of your questions. Feel free to ask me anything else about the process.

What a special guy you have

 Thanks, Snow White.

I think so, too, but I love it when someone else notices. Just to really lay it on, he also loves to come to work with me... I work at a nursing home, and he would rather spend a day there, helping with activities and just visiting our residents, than to stay home and play/watch TV, etc, when he is out of school.

That's why this wish trip is such a big deal for me. This kid has missed out on so many fun things because of his illness. I cannot wait to go and have this week of magic for him and his little brother.
