Make a wish cruise canceled permanently

I do not know much about Make-a-Wish, but I was wondering if they could do something for your daughter at your home. Maybe a renovation of her room to have everything a teen might like and decorated with lots of Disney theming.

It's one we are considering. Our difficulty is figuring out what she would like. She would love disney theming. She has a TV, bunk beds and only has a 10x10 or so room. She has her own ensuite bathroom as well.

We also just found out that a service dog is out anyway. They don't give service dogs. I think we are going to have to wait for 6 months or so and hope travel opens up or otherwise go for a shopping spree or figure out a room redesign. In such a small space I don't know how they could design a destimulation space like at her special needs center but that could be cool.

Since it sounds like disney movies are something she loves, would make a wish consider a home theater? It looks like they have done that recently for other kids. Just a thought. I know it’s not the same but just trying to think of other options for you in case travel does not come back as a wish option.

Have you tried contacting Pete Werner or John Magi, even Kevin, to see about a zoom call to Taylor? They are BIG MAW people and I'm sure, if they could, they would arrange for a zoom greeting with the DIS staff she loves. That would at least be something. It might cheer her up a bit.

Update(sorry for any redundancy to original post, just putting it all down so no one had to flip back and forth): my daughter had her make a wish trip(disney cruise) scheduled for December 2020, which of course was cancelled. They told us about 6 months ago Make a Wish Canada would not be allowing cruises for at least 2 years, which is too late for our daughter who turns 18 this year. They also weren't allowing any travel outside of Canada for all of 2021 and 2022 and she would lose her wish if she didn't use it by the time she turned 18.

We have been going back and forth of what she could do as she is special needs, ie very different interests than a regular kid. She pretty much just cares about wanting friends(being special needs she has one friend in Florida and one friend from her class here in Toronto) and Disney. So no point getting a camping trailer, a room makeover, shopping spree, etc that so many kids did because travel wasn't allowed. We asked if a support animal was allowed, we were told no. So long story made long(sorry had to share details to build it up like it was for us) they just wrote us to tell us they are allowing US travel starting in July. Ie her second choice after the cruise was Disneyland and that will be allowed!!!!!!! No idea how its going to work in the next 5 months till she turns 18, nor how we are going to get the time off when we already booked all of our vacation plus a week unpaid. But who carrrrrres, she (and the family) can go to disneyland!!!!!!!!!!!!! where none of us have ever been.

So happy she is getting her wish just in time!! You will love Disneyland, so many rides in the two parks and easy to navigate.

Thanks everyone we are very happy for her, especially because we thought it was a lost cause and we weren't sure if we were even going to use the wish at all because there wasn't much else that would really be a big thing for her.
