I was thinking of this earlier today and thought it was worth sharing. It has nothing to do with my MaW trip, but it does concern MaW.

I remember last year about April I took my two sons to Burger King for a late dinner. (My Daughter was at her Grandma's house for the weekend.) There was only one other group in the play area with a boy and a girl. Of course my son being the social butterfly that he is started playing with the two children. I was soon to relize that the group there was on a special dinner the night before the family was going on a MaW trip. I know that the wish was for the little girl but did not pry into their personal life. I watched in awe as the wish granters talked to the little girl about princess and even gave her a little wooden box that had hand burned pictures of princesses on it. It was beautiful.

We stayed with the family until all of our children were near falling asleep. I wish them luck and took my family home thanking God that my children were healthy and thanking god for MaW who could help such families out that were not so lucky.

Unfortunatly I found out that I wasn't so lucky. My oldest has CF and unless there is a cure found will taking meds for the rest of his life. I still thank God though beacause so far he hasn't had any bad complications and we caught it before any permenate lung damage. And now that my son has been granted a wish I have another reason to thank God for MaW.

Sorry so long,

Funny thing is...I'm the one who donated the kidney! :) I will pray for you and your husband. Thanks for the nice words, she does deserve it, but it's hard to think that way, after reading other peoples stories. They put lumps in my throat just thinkin of them. There appears to be MANY amazing people on here!!! If only I could know them.

I have no itinerary, was just planning to take it day by day. I don't like to be stressed, so I think it will be easier to just go with the flow. Don't get me wrong, I AM excited.

My daughter, Piper who will be 10 in July has been doing good. Right now, we're playing around with the medicines again, trying to get it right again. I feel so bad, because she went from getting her blood drawn weekly, to monthly. This month, she has had 3. She went from thinking they were nothing, to, "Mommy, they hurt". :(
 How awesome that you were able to give her such a precious gift!!:headache:
We are looking into doing a "partner Swap" I don't match DH (Wrong blood type) and no one left in his family is eligible.
Poor Piper. We will pray they get the medicines fixed soon!! My DS6 used to just throw his arm out he had so many blood test. Now that they are random he doesn't even like to think about it!!
You might want to plan a little. Maybe just which parks which days. Just find which parks are less crowded. Or if there is a certain attraction or parade you want to see which days or times they do it on.

Hi,

Does anyone know when they do the afternoon orientation at the GTKW complex? We are supposed to arrive to the airport in Orlando at 3:00 p.m. and will probably arrive at GTKW after 4:00 p.m. So I was wondering if I can do the orentation on the day arrive or if we have to wait until the next morning. We were hoping to get an early start that morning by going to one of the Disney parks. We have only a short time to get everything we want to get done.
:confused::confused3

I am in need of someone to tell me that she deserves this, as I've seen other children more deserving. Am I making any sense?

I agree with what everyone else his saying. I too wasn't sure if my family deserved a wish. My son has a chronic disease but hasn't had any real complications as of yet. That doesn't lessen the fact that this disease has changed his life. It is the same with your daughter. Hopefully she will never have another complication for the rest of her life and this can simply be a trip to celebrate the fact that you got through it.

Our wish granter told us the orientation is at 7 or 7:45 in the evening.

It's me again. I just thought of another question. My parents are coming along on our wish trip (their expense). They are coming to help with my autistic son. They are staying with us at GKTW, but we need to find tickets for attractions cheap. Does anyone know where we can get discounts on tickets for Disney, Sea World and Universal Studios??

Thank you Wishmom09 for the info on the orientation.

I am busy planning our wish trip.

Thanks for the help.

Oh no! Bless your heart! It stinks to go from the outside to the inside of this circle.

It sounds like your son is doing really well! It is a good sign, I suppose, that he was diagnosed at 7, because he must have done fairly well before that? I guess I am totally assuming that...

I thank God for MAW every day. They made the trip for Lauren so magical! And they touch many lives of families that need some light in their world!!!

The orientations totally depend on when families are arriving...

They have one at 9:00 AM, if there are families that have arrived after the evening orientation. They have one around 3:00 or so, if they have had a few families check in around lunch time. And they have the "main" one around 7:00...after supper.

They also sometimes have them at 9:00 AM (for those arriving later than 7) and 3:30 ish for those arriving in the early afternoon and 7ish is the main one.

The day we arrived they had orientation at 4pm, another at 7:45pm and then another the next morning at 9am. We were able to choose whichever we wanted.

hola all!! i had previously tried to post a link to my sons "story"...well, now that i FINALLY have more 10 post, here it is!!!

MATTHEW'S STORY (done last year when he turned 4)

we are so pleased and excited to be here....it has been REALLY crazy now that we realize that there is only 18 days LEFT till our MAW trip! EEK!! maroo is AWESOME and is definetly helping in the planning department!! THANK YOU! i realized i DIDN'T have a clue what to expect so it should be REALLY fun trying to get thru it all!!

we are so happy...my DH just came home from IRAQ in june 2008 so this trip is EXTRA SPECIAL because we know that unfortunatly he will probably be going back in 2010...so, we are going to BASK in this trip and enjoy being together as a FAMILY....(our DEPLOYMENT VIDEO)

i do have a couple of questions..did anyone take a computer?? i read somewhere that the rental of STROLLERS there at the park are FREE for the GKTW guests?? if this is true, i am trying to decided if i should take my 17 m old stroller with us or not?? probably...

anyway, thanks again and i will continue to READ and get INFORMED!!!

We brought Noah's own stroller, since we needed it outside the parks too.

We weren't going to use the free stroller rental in the parks, but after the first day we were tired of listening to the older 2 kids whine about walking. We got the double stroller for them (yes, free!) and it was heaven!! Yes, even though they are both far too old for strollers (6 & 8), it was great to be able to give them a break, we were able to move faster and get more done, and everyone was much, much happier!!

Ah...I don't know...:confused3 I would ask GKTW? Maybe? We didn't use all of our tickets...and we gave them back to GKTW...I wonder if this happens very often? Maybe you could get some comp tickets? Maybe not?

Gosh...this one has stumped me...anyone have any ideas?

Wal*Mart down the street from GKTW sells some Discounted Tickets, not a great discount, but discount none the less. You also have Ebay. But One Days aren't cheap. Face value for a Park Hopper is $125.

Well we got some amazing news today. Aidan has been excepted into the Baylor Our Children's House Feeding Program. It's an intense 8-5, five day a week feeding program for FOUR-Five Weeks. We have been waiting to get in since November. If he learns to feed then this fall he could attend a special school for communications and such. He must feed on his own however to get in. We got rid of the Trach, now we need to get him eating.

Will keep y'all posted and I haven't forgotten to finish our trip report. Life has been a little busy lately, and I'm using spare time to be a better Father and Husband.

I would check out this website for discount tickets. They have a lot of suggestions for "honest" places to buy discount tickets.

Here is the info on Wal-Mart that was mentioned in the PP. This is from the website I suggested. I would also suggest checking out this website mousesavers recommends. They also have something if you sign up for their newsletter, they send you special offers monthly for tickets. (Above what is on their website.) If you sign up and won't get your newsletter ontime, see this post. People will be more than happy to send it to you so you can get the deals.

Kissimmee Wal-Mart

If you are driving or renting a car in Florida, here's another option: the Wal-Mart at 4444 W. Vine in Kissimmee, one town over from Orlando, has a ticket center within the store that sells discounted multi-day Disney World tickets.

They do not carry every ticket type. You have to buy the tickets in person -- they will not mail them. I would recommend calling ahead at (407) 397-0090 or (800) 669-0913 to confirm prices, hours and availability.

That sounds like a great opportunity for y'all! Hope this will help Aidan!
I respect you trying to be a better husband and father! Family 1st!!!
But we are missing your updates!! :sad1:

yeah!!!!!! You're back!!!! :)

Well...sorta.

Congrats to Aidan on being accepted into the feeding program! I hope it gets him eating! :thumbsup2

Thanks for touching base with us! You have some rabid fans over here that can't seem to wait for that TR to begin! But we will be nice...and patient...I promise. :)

Just a vent, but...

They closed the MAW Chapter of RI (aka, the Chapter I got my wish from!) today.

:sad1:

After 17 (?) years of operation, MAWF of RI closed its doors. I'm so bummed about this. My whole family is, really. Hard to believe that 10 years ago, two Wish Granters were sitting in our living room, asking me what I wanted for my wish. Of course, I went to WDW! I was 6 at the time, and am turning 16 in July. We've been volunteering with them ever since!

I just need a hug :guilty:
