After having a little nose online at the weekend I am finding myself thinking about DLP a lot. DD talks about characters all day long wants to give them a big cuddle and tell each one she loves them.

We have annual passes till September and I have found a hotel for £33 (granted its not a great hotel but I am happy if it is clean) for 2 nights in August. But how to get there?

Flights are ridiculous being in August. Plus transfer prices and the flight times are poor.

I have looked at euro star but has any one any experience of getting there who live outside of London? We are from Somerset is it an easy drive?

Driving the costs seem to start mounting tunnel and ferry prices aren't bad but then petrol and insurance etc plus DH will moan he has done all the driving.

Hi

I use viamichelin as a guide as it will give you how much the petrol you will approximately need and also the cost of any tolls and it also may give you suggested routes.

Also check the small print on your car insurance as mine automatically covers me for driving abroad for 90 days a year.

I am the only driver in the family, but love the drive from Hull to Dover and then we go on the ferry.

Thanks I think mine covers Europe driving for so many days as we jokingly said about it before but we would have to get extra breakdown cover :( I am going to look at viamichelin now

We drove in France last month (although not to DLP sadly!) and I don't remember having to pay much extra for insurance and breakdown cover.

Do you have Tesco vouchers? We used some to cover most of the cost of the tunnel - at the time £30 could be exchanged for £90 worth of tunnel vouchers.

I didn't do any driving myself but the French roads were much quieter than in the UK and were very easy to navigate. You could drive to Folkestone the day before and then drive down to DLP the next morning.

Hello neighbor :)

The drive to the tunnel from Somerset is easy....straight up to the M25 and turn right, and it takes approx. 3.5 hours.

We usually drive through the night, and it's very quiet.

The tunnel is super quick, and then it's just 3 more hours to DLP

Thanks for the replies. Our insurance covers us to go to Europe just have to tell them when we are going.
Found the tunnel for £53 return
hotel for £31 (can go through quid I and earn 12% back)
have annual passes.
Via Michelin.com estimates our petrol to be about £160.
Would take plenty of food with us. (I'm doing slimming world and will be easier to stay on track if I take food from home). Now just to convince DH it's a good £242 well spent.

Any other expenses I should factor in?

parking at the hotel.

many hotels charge you for parking, sometimes up to £10 or £15 per day.
For example the Ibis and Ibis Budget in Montevrain do charge you for their underground parking lot (and there is almost no way you can park outside)

Don't know which hotel you're considering, but it might be a good think that it's free and easy parking there

also make sure there is a fridge in the room if you bring food (and that its usage is free), or get a cooler (if it's an electrical cooler, make sure it can work in france and get the correct mains plug)

Ah thank you just checking these now. X

Free parking can't find any information on the fridge but that is fine. Thanks for the help

Also there is the toll on the motorway

if you do Calais - Arras - Marne la Vallée (A26 then A1) , that's a 20.4 euro toll each way (both motorways have tolls)

Thanks I was just looking at this on google maps

Its a pretty great bargain price. How long until WDW? Could that be used as leverage or if Dave isn't pushed would you drive just yourself and the little lady?

That's how we do our trips now Leanne - we are much closer to Folkestone to be fair, but still say go for it! We just decided we would rather stay offsite and go more often, getting more value for money and more trips! Plus you can fill your boot with more Disney shopping haha. In fact we are off tomorrow doing just that!

Just got back from doing that! Premier Class in Bussy St George is clean (though very (!) basic and 30¬ a night- three more trips planned!

It is a premier classe near the kyraid. As long as it is clean and some where to sleep I am happy it will only be one night.
