Major Hesitations About POR

Hi Folks,
I should preface this post by saying that I have stayed at POR several times before and have loved it. However, I am currently quite worried about my upcoming trip (Nov. 25- Dec. 1). I have been reading on this (and other sites) that POR has been having some MAJOR issues with buses and housekeeping. While I can deal with bus issues and am willing to take taxis, I do not want to stay in a room that is unkept. We have really been looking forward to this trip and would hate for something like that to put a damper on the celebration. Is anyone else concerned? Anyone have any recent experiences with POR? What do you think?

Thanks so much.

We had a great experience at POR Aug 07. A wonderful mousekeeper-friendly and hard working. No problems at all.

I actually don't really understand why some guests choose to not immediately address a serious housekeeping issue. It's so easy to pick up the phone and get the discrepancy solved.

Have a great stay!

We did POR this year and the housekeeping was wonderful.

Busses were ok, but wish were at FQ instead.

We've stayed in POR many times and have had no problems with mousekeeping, the buses, or anything else. We love the place. The only reason we don't stay there now is that it isn't DVC.

The last time we stayed at POR we got the next to last room in the last building before POFQ. We were closer to the lobby area of POFQ than POR so we opperated out of there. We caught the bus there, the boats and ate at the counter service there. When staying closer to the POR main building we go there. Both are very plessant and for the most part quiet.

Beforwarned! The place is infested with Rabbits! They are everywhere!

In the great stew of life...some people just don't like to get a hare in their's.

We stayed at POR this past July and had no problems with housekeeping. We felt the busses didn't come often enough. We'll be going back to Pop Century though on our next trip. We really like the atmosphere, food court, and the busses are alot quicker.

If you read this board long enough, you will find that every single resort has had some complaint about housekeeping, buses, bugs, food, curtains, towels, shampoo, bedspreads, mattresses, safes, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, ice, drinking cups, locks, noise from outside, noise from inside, TV coverage or lack thereof, pool, laundry, gift shop, pool bar, front desk, checking in, checking out, luggage assistance, telephones, note pads, smell, length of grass, shinyness of light bulbs, well, you get my drift.

Disnut, you are wise. :cool1:

While I think the buses at POR need some tweaking, I still think this is a great resort. I agree with the above poster, all WDW resorts get their "dissing on the dis". For awhile it was CBR now POR seems to be feeling no love around here. I am not saying that people haven't had some valid complaints, however complaints are always posted more than compliments and if someone has had some type of recent issue and they see a "problem at POR" thread, they'll repsond, and it goes on and on! And remember, the disboards is just a small slice of WDW clientale. There are thousands of people who have stayed there recently, love it and are probably telling all their friends and family about this fabulous resort called Port Orleans they just had the pleasure of staying at. Unfortunately, they have never heard of disboards so they aren't posting!;)

If you have stayed there before and had good results I'd just stick with it. If you have problems with anything, bring them up to management right when it happens.

Love POR! Had an issue one time with housekeeping. Made a quick call to the front desk and the problem was resolved within 15 minutes.

Have a great trip!

Well said! :thumbsup2

In regards to POR housekeeping, I was there in May 2006 and didn't have any major complaints. Housekeeping was good enough. I really don't think you can generalize housekeeping at any resort as good or bad. It all depends on who cleans your particular room. You can get a good mousekeeper or a poor one at any room in any resort. Try not to worry (and don't look under the bed for any thumbs!) If you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about, there was a thread a while back where someone saw what "looked like a thumb" under the bed, but oddly enough they never checked to see for sure what it was. You better believe if I thought there was a thumb under my bed I would have made sure!

We stayed at POR the last week August-Sept. 4...I'd rent a car if you are going to dine a lot at other resorts. In fact, I would scoot over to the FQ to go to the pool, dine in their superior food court. (It is made to order and good. Try the marinated, grilled chicken sandwich.) It is really easy to park and go in.
When going to the parks in the morning, avoid the main stop if possible. They go around the resort first.

Hey we stayed at POR at the end of August. Even though I hated the resort in general due to size and overcrowding and especially my room assignment. The Mousekeeping was very good. The room was cleaned and we got towel animals each day except for once. She left us a note the following day apoligising for being off and thanked us for tipping.

Stayed at POR in July. We had a car, so can't comment on buses. I thought housekeeping was just fine. I don't think we'll stay there again as we didn't care for the resort otherwise.

I've stayed at POR probably 20+ times as well as many other resorts and have never once had a single problem. Many resorts have the same issues (like buses) that POR has because even the Deluxe resorts share buses (and the problems like wait time and crowdedness are much worse). I would not worry or have any hesitations about it whatsoever. POR quality has not gone down. What I've read are just personal opinions of this and that and one person's opinion of a bus problem could be completely different from someone else's.

As and ex cast member, I've seen, heard, and experienced a lot and could tell you sooo many stories. I've rode all the buses from here to there and can tell you that the transportation is the same everywhere. They tell us when we are training that people expect perfection when they come to WDW, and that is so true! It's good and bad because that's what makes people come back, but unfortunately some people expect it so much that they are just left with disappointment. Some people want a bus and they want it now or they aren't happy and it seems that you really only hear the negatives instead of the positives.

That's just my personal opinion. I say if you had a great time in the past and really liked it then you'll be quite happy, but if you have doubts you may not enjoy your stay as much so take what you read with a grain of salt and enjoy your stay! Have a great time, it is absolutely beautiful at that time of year!

We just stayed and the housekeeping was wonderful. They always restocked our shampoo/soaps and gave us way more towels than we needed.

We have stayed there many times but OCt 06 was the last time we were there ...the buses are always a pain but we drive our car to the food court area and catch the bus from there....

The room was not that clean but I complained and they sent someone over right away.

We stayed at POR 2 weeks ago and we didn't have any MAJOR issues at all! Keep in mind that most people post the negatives and not the positives. Yes the busses were a pain but we had a bus every time and had to stand only a handful of times. As for housekeeping, no they don't do a stellar job but every day our bed was made and we had fresh towels. Since I don't spend every day polishing my own house to a sparkle before I go to bed at night, I didn't expect the housekeepers to do that for us.

Go. Enjoy yourself!

I guess I'm wondering what your idea of unkept is. DH and I only use mousekeeping twice during a week long vacation and when we do use them, we expect the beds to be made, towels to be changed & folded, floor to be vaccumed & trash to be taken out. We don't leave our belongings all over the room and wouldn't expect mousekeeping to tidy our personal belongings if we did. I definitely wouldn't let an unmade room ruin my vacation... If I arrived at the room to find it not cleaned on the days we requested service, I would simply call mousekeeping and ask that someone tend to the room right away. Yes, it can be inconvenient, but you step out of your room for 15 minutes, take a walk and come back to a clean room.

I hope you don't let the negative posts (as one pp said, people more often than not post the negatives and not the positives) sway you. You've stayed in the past and enjoyed the resort so I say go in with a great attitude and you'll have a great time!

We stayed at POR a few weeks ago and had a great time!:cool1:

Housekeeping was excellent; no complaints there. Every day they'd re-arrange our kids's stuffed animals in a different way. The kids thought it was so much fun!

Busses--no complaints there either. Of course there were times when we had to stand, but I think that's a given at opening or closing. Other times during the day (afternoon, late morning) the busses were almost empty.
