...INCREASING THREAT OF MAJOR EAST COAST WINTER STORM...

12Z GFS HAS SWITCHED BACK TO A DEEPER MUCH CLOSER IN LOW CLOSE TO
YTDAS 12Z GFS AND CURRENT 00Z ECMWF TAKING A 980 MB OFF CAPE COD.
THIS SCENARIO FOLLOWS YTDAS HPC PROGS AND THINKING AS MODELS BEGIN
TO CONVERGE ON A MORE AGREED UPON SOLUTION WITH GOOD HPC FORECAST
CONTINUITY FROM YESTERDAY. 12Z UKMET NOW DEEPER AND A BIT FARTH
AT 40/70 WHILE ECMWF HAS ITS 975 MB LOW NEAR BLOCK ISLAND SOUND.
NAVY NOGAPS ALSO DEEP AND CLOSE IN TO CAPE COD. GFS ENS MEANS A
BIT EAST BUT MEAN PCPN SHOWING A SIG PCPN EVENT OVER COASTAL MA.
AFTN PROGS WILL ADJUST SLIGHTLY WEST HAVING A DEEP LOW NEAR THE
NORTHEAST BENCHMARK. MODELS ARE CONVERGING ON THIS SOLUTION WITH
INCREASED FORECASTER CONFIDNECE.

THIS INCREASES THE THREAT OF A
SNOW EVENT ALONG THE MID ATLC COAST FROM EASTERN VA UP THE COAST
AND ESPECIALLY A HEAVY SNOW THREAT FOR COASTAL NEW ENGLAND.
SOME
ADDITIONAL WESTWARD ADJUSTMENT MADE FROM THIS MORNINGS PRELIMS
WITH AFTN UPDATED PROGS INCLUDING OPERATIONAL 12Z GFS AND 12Z CMC.
HIGH WIND AND SNOW THREAT NEW ENG COAST LATE SUNDAY AND MONDAY.

Good luck and have a safe trip to WDW.

Yeah, yeah, yeah....We had 2 feet of snow overnight.

I know many places aren't used to it, but snow to us is absolutely nothing.

And heck, maybe some places will have a white Christmas who usually never see snow!

Our family is driving from western Pa. to Vermont for a ski trip on Saturday.

Getting a big snowstorm the day after we arrive would be the best thing we could hope for! :thumbsup2

I was going to post this in case someone did not - it is heading into the holidays and if anyone is traveling to Disney along the east coast on Sunday, they should definately keep an eye on this storm.

I work for the govt. in the mid-Atlantic states and we are looking at this storm very closely. It could dump a potential 5 - 12 inches on top of what we got yesterday; which was about 3 inches of snow with some ice mixed in.

I like "with increased forecaster confidence":):)

Let's see where it actually forms and how far inland it extends--that's something they almost always get wrong with these sorts of storms.

We had another bridge call today with our Emergency Management and they cannot tell where it is going. The slightest bend in either direction and it could miss us or wallop us - literally.

So I agree; until there is forecaster confidence, there is no way of telling where this will go - it is good to be prepared for anything.

That being said, I am headed to get Chinese take-out - it seems that is the only thing that I can count on the amount of meals I can get out of one HUGE order.

Latest forecasts has it heading out to sea.

Agreed. I am originally from NW PA, and am living in the Hampton Roads area of VA. I WANT MY SNOW!!!! (even though what we wouldn't even consider a snowfall at home has shut schools down here for two days!)

Heck--we had less than an inch Friday last week and just a small dusting this past Thursday night.
Absolutely paralyzed traffic on I-83....
