Major DLR Entertainment Cuts

Since we are whispering...... we didn't like the fireworks! Too Loud.

But really... Disney has poor marketing on releasing this negative information.

They could have made the cut on the fireworks be respectful to the fire risks...it could have been spun in a different way.

We do look forward to sitting on mainstreet and watching a parade ... that's just Disney Magic.

Disney hasn't released ANY of this information. Currently, it's all internet speculation. Even on MiceChat, there's backpedaling a plenty as they've found newer information that seems to go against what they've (MC) already put out there.

I'll believe it when Disney is the one to say it.

I wonder if they weren't working on the tracks on Main Street if they would have still cut the parade, KWIM? It seems like it was just the right timing.

Yes, it does seem like the right timing. But I also know that last visit I was walking down MS thinking how the roads looked like they needed to be redone. :)

This is a quote from MiceAge:

Editor's Note 12/24-25: There's lots of confusion from Disneyland.com on early 2009's entertainment, but here's the latest; Fantasmic! will still run 7 nights per week thru the middle of March before a rehab. Fireworks are cancelled weekends, except for MLK Jr. & President's Day. And Parade of Dreams is history, pending the response to the Celebration street party debuting 3/26. More info on the cuts in the next update. Enjoy your holiday! - Al Lutz

I just called guest relations 714-781-7290 to see about my dates (Feb. 1-7). According to the lady I spoke to
1) Aladdin will be going
2) Fantasmic will be running all week
3) IASW will be back up Feb. 5 or 6.

Hopefully, this will not be changed.

Weekends to not have fireworks?? that seems odd, wouldn't they not do them on weekdays when the park attendance is a lot less?

OK, whew. I thought it was the Animation Academy, which we LOVED (seriously, loved), and Eamon asked questions in front of everyone (he's 4.5 and doesn't go to school, where did he learn to put his hand up to ask a question, and where did he get the guts to ask for help in the middle of the lesson?????) and the helper animator gave him, without being asked, a picture he had drawn.... So while the show thing looks cute from afar, I'm glad it's not the Animation Academy.

And I think we could help 'em out too! They wouldn't even have to pay us, ya know? Just give us a Premium AP each year for our thoughts and opinions.

I'm sure you can figure out that I was thinking of what E will want to do in that empty stage area.... :)

Oh those poor ladies in waiting! I hope they don't lose their jobs. The male attendants, too. E has signatures of 3 ladies in waiting and one of the guys, it's too cute.

I guess the only thing for us to do is to GO GO GO to DLR! Stimulate their economy? And give them feedback!

But I let hubby, who is notoriously awful with money, be in charge of our money from Nov to, well, today, and now we're in debt b/c of our trip! I had it budgeted, and the end of this month wasn't going to be pretty, but we would have it ALL taken care of, but no, starting off the new year with a few hundred (which isn't much but it's more than it was supposed to be) on DH's brand new credit card. Harumph.

Some cost-cutting measures will be in effect 'round here, LOL...

Ohhhhh Molly, I love the way you think, DL Mom's panel with free AP's as pay! I think they could afford that! :)

Think of how many extra trips we'd take! Sure, we'd get the food discount, but we would be buying food we wouldn't be there to eat if we weren't there for a panel! :)

Instead of focusing on cutting costs, they should just get a few of us down there to spend money, give them GOOD suggestions, and then come back here and write about it.

OK now I'm reminded of the "mom blogs" where you THINK a person is just giving a suggestion for something she likes, but really she's being paid a bit of money for advertising it. Sneaky.

I promise I'm being paid NOTHING by Disney to write my trip reports.

But I'm open to it! :rotfl: :lmao: :rolleyes1

Ah thanks for the clarification, Monkey!:goodvibes

I'll not worry about it til i hear it from Disney.

We've done all we can to support Disneyland this year. Two family trips..purchasing premium annual passes for 6 members of the family.:thumbsup2

The princesses make a minimum of $10/hour. The pretty maiden girls that help them tell their stories I'm sure make the same if not less. :confused3 I don't get it either.
There are also the show support staff and stage techs that work PFF to consider--especially for the Royal Coronation Ceremony. There's at least two or three techs in the control booth, and I would guess there's at least one costume/dresser backstage along with another tech at a minimum. Even the Storytelling sessions have some support, as lights come up and down, and there's always a CM with a clipboard and headset standing and watching from the back.

Still, it's no where near the cost savings of the entire Parade of Dreams *sniff*, but it begins to add up.

It sounds like Aladdin will be sticking around though (hurray!) as will Fantasmic. Although taking down Fantasmic (rumored to be mid-March) just as the crowds build for Spring Break and Easter seems odd. But it may take long enough to refurb it that they'll bite the bullet, as long as it's ready for the Summer.

Something that has been being cut for along time that i don't like AT all is the charecters arn't coming out.... i saw pics from when i was little and went.... there was pics with every charecter ever in a movie i swear!!!! its sad they dont have them out really anymore :sad2:

Speaking of panels...on Sunday night, when I was wandering around DL by myself, I saw a survey person with a clipboard making a beeline towards me when she spotted me in the Plaza area. I kept my composure, but I was secretly giddy, hoping she was going to ask me to participate in one of those panels at the DLH where I would get a $100 Disney gift card at the end. She told me she had some Disney dining-related questions, and I was dying to answer those (gift card or no gift card), but the criteria I had to meet was based on any meals I had eaten IN Disneyland on THAT SPECIFIC DAY. Sadly, we had eaten only at Goofy's Kitchen that day, which didn't count since it was not IN the parks. Our Disneyland and California Adventure meals had been the previous day. So I couldn't participate! Drat! Drat! Drat!!! Foiled again!!!

So true. Today I was thinking about who gets paid while Fantasmic is going on and I totally forgot the clip boards, costume CMs, and backstage people, etc. Doh.

I saw this posted on both Mice Chat and Mouse Planet so I thought I would post this here to let you Dis'ers know to give you a heads up with your planning.

I don't know how entirely true this reported schedule will be. I'm just copying and pasting from other sites so everyone can plan accordingly.

That sure looks right as I have been watching the calendar hoping to see SOMETHING added. We arive on Jan 10 and there is no entertainment at all until the fireworks the weekend of MLK (which is when our Backstage Magic ABD is) Hopefully the crowds will be L O W

As for Aladdin and F! those were not on the schedule for my trip at all, not even listed on the weekend (well I think F! was but not Aladdin) so I was hoping for but not expecting to see it.

F! wasn't, and still isn't, showing up for my dates. I'll be there Jan 2-7. Speaking as one who only gets to go once a year, I hope everything is up and running at least until the 5th. I booked understanding that everything holiday related goes down on the 5th and that we then enter the slow season. I like F! It's the next best thing to the fireworks. :cheer2:

I am still shocked that they may not show fireworks on the weekend during the main street parade rehab. It's bad enough to go off season and not have all the shows running, but most people who go off season know that they do show the fireworks on the weekends. So that sucks for those planning while that rehab is happening. :sad2:

I thought for sure the fireworks would be shown the weekend we're there. But....such is life. I've seen them before so I'll live. Still kind of stinks though.

We are heading to CA from MA in Feb and booked a very expensive room in the Grand Californian. Sure hope these rumors of no parades and no fireworks turn out to be false. They sure didn't tell us "Well, nothing will be open while you are here so you get a big discount on your room for going to the time and expense of flying all the way out here" when we booked our room earlier today. Sighhhhh
BTW this will be my first trip to DL in almost 20 years. Most recent trip to WDW was last May.

Wickidwitch, call Vacation Planning at 714-300-7526 (option 2). They can tell you what they currently have scheduled for your trip time. I don't know what the exact dates for the Mainstreet paving are, but I was told that while the repaving is being done, there will be no parades or fireworks. When you call the above number, ask for Lauren or Barbara. Those two are always very courteous and helpful.

Thanks Canyon girl! I took this advice and Lauren confirmed that F! will be running every night in January. For my dates, Jan 3-6, it will be showing at 9 & 10:30 on Friday and Saturday and 7:30 on Monday and Tuesday. I'm so jazzed!

"Well, confirmation from other sources makes it clear that Fantasmic! will be offered 7 days a week until at least March 27th,"

Woo Hoo! :yay: :dance3:

I just spoke with Lauren and she said that fireworks will be down, but Fantasmic will be showing during our visit.

Mary

So it sounds like Fantasmic will be on, parades and fireworks are off. Sounds like the Disney version of the Big Dig!

I was told by VP right before thanksgiving about the parades. I had asked about the rumours and was told yes its moving to WDW, but was not sure when the new one would start.

Hi wwomant! :flower3: I was just going to post over here what you wrote on MP about this! I'm glad they are showing F! Yay!:cheer2:
Disney really should update their calendar though, especially since someone posted that VP knew about this a few months ago.
