Major computer problems have kept me off the board for awhile.

Happy to be back with you all!
Upshot is that we needed a new motherboard after the last one melted at least two capacitors!!! I'm a computer idiot, but I know that smoke pouring from the computer is never a good thing, right? LOL
Good news is that we have a great new computer which is fast, fast, fast and runs Windows 7. We got a new monitor which is smoking hot! My pics never looked so good!
Bad news is that all my tagged photos are now "untagged". I have all the photos on hard drive, but have to recatalog my PSE 5 shots.
Really bad news is that I can't get Capture NX2.0 to work on this new computer! And I Loooooooooooooooove my Capture NX!
So I l have lots of recataloging to do and I don't know how I'm going to handle not having Capture NX.

Sorry to hear you couldn't post for so long but glad to see you have a new computer!!!!

Maybe I'll get a new monitor too if it improves pictures so much!

I was wondering where you were lately. Glad to hear you are back among the technically connected. There are always glitches when there is a new computer ... hope you get everything retagged and all your favorite software going again

Welcome Back :yay:

Glad to hear you're back and faster than ever. ;) 7 is pretty nice, eh? As for Capture NX, is there a newer version that works properly in Windows 7?

I would try Googling around. There is almost certainly some way to make your version work. Worst case, you should be able to run "XP Mode", which is a virtual XP machine that runs inside 7 - it's a free download from Microsoft. With this, you can just just about anything that XP can run.

Worst case - might be time to switch to Lightroom. :thumbsup2

Also, if your old motherboard died (as your description indicates), your hard drive is probably fine and you probably should have been able to recover any tagging that was done to the photos.

Hello Quicklabs,

Have you checked compatibility?
Just an FYI for you.

It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibility.)
microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".

There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx

In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!

As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assistance and support.

Thanks again,
John M.

Good to see you back. Scratches to those beautiful doggies of yours. paw:

Go to Nikon's web site and download the latest version of Capture NX2 then plug in your product code from the one you purchased and your good to go. Before I switched to Win7 I downloaded the latest version and it worked with no problems at all. (it works even better now that I've switched to a Mac).

Another option is to take the hard drive out of the old computer, put it in the new computer and boot off of that drive when doing photo things. Just a thought that may work if you get desperate.
