MAJOR changes to Genie+!

I am amazed that such a poor quality film was allowed to pass muster, it truly ruined Soarin' for us. I wish they would return to Soarin' over California, there is no comparison. (Sorry gone off-topic there!)
I agree. It really says something when you have to request a specific concourse and row (B1) in order to not get a crooked view.

I think the new Soarin’ film got caught in the budget reductions during the last recession. We don’t watch it anymore - too poor compared to Soarin’ over California, which we made a point of watching several times last time we were at DLR California Adventure (were fortunate to be there when they were showing it instead of the other).

Not to get back on topic or anything but . . . it has now been almost three weeks since these changes went into effect. Have there been any reports of Genie+ selling out? Has anyone confirmed whether you can still buy it at midnight, or whether day-of sales now don't start until 7:00?

In the main Genie threads, many people (not me personally) have confirmed that you can buy any time after midnight and that G+ was still available for purchase throughout the day.

I don't think the expansion was the issue. The film relies heavily on CGI and if you're not perfectly dead center you can bendy Eiffel Tower lol. It really needed the additional theater.
Yeah this was exactly my experience being off to the side and it kinda ruined the experience for me. I thought Mission Space Orange was a much better experience compared to Soarin which surprised me because having never been on either one, I expected it to be the opposite based on reviews.

It really does take you out of the ride. I actually really like Soain' the scents are such a neat touch but hard to really want to do it much when you always chance that side viewing.

If I were to guess, I don't think Disney will begin making substantial Genie+ changes until 2023 when the cut off for buying Genie+ in advance ended. So that no one already has Genie+ on their tickets when the changes happen. For now, it won't sell out but you'll just have to buy it day of.

I agree at least that it will be a while before the effects could be discernable. Plus I'm sure Disney is watching how much "revenge travel" continues vs just getting back to normal levels without a pent up demand to drive it.

I agree with that too. I mean, my May trip was entirely based on revenge travel as that trip was supposed to happen in May 2020. For now I don't think anyone needs to worry about Genie+ selling out in the same way Express at Universal does.

Thanks. Since June 8, every day but one has been at a crowd level of either 6 or 7, according to Touring Plans' historical crowd tracker. (June 13 was an 8.)

Perhaps it's correct that Disney won't really make any changes until the new year, no matter what. But it's also possible that they just haven't reached their anticipated cutoff crowd level yet. If so, that's pretty disappointing. Crowds have been quite heavy all month, and Genie+ offerings have been slim, especially in the afternoon.

Touring Plans isn't forecasting a crowd level of 8 or higher again until two random(?) days in October -- October 8 and 9. And after that, they don't expect extremely high crowds until Thanksgiving and Christmas. So we may have to wait quite a while to learn more about what Disney might have planned. If we don't see Genie+ selling out even during the holidays, then either (a) this was all much ado about nothing, or (b) Disney is holding off on making any real changes until 2023, when no one will have tickets with advanced Genie+ added.

Personally, I'm hoping for (b). Otherwise, that would mean that Disney isn't actually going to be doing anything to improve the Genie+ experience --- even on very busy (but not insanely busy) days.

I do think option b is a possibility. Why would Disney up the price of Genie+ when people already prepaid the $15 for it? That's lost money on their end. Personally I would be cool with Genie+ being capped if it fixed the overall experience especially at HS where on extremely busy days, the E-tickets sell out at 10:30-11:30 am. Even if a cap doesn't happen, I do think a price increase is guaranteed to happen in 2023.

Agree with this. I really don't like the current film because unless you are in the perfect spot, the images are distorted (the Taj Mahal and especially the Eiffel Tower).

Thr lightning lane lines would be nearly as long as the regular lines at popular attractions.

Nah not really. Longer than current LL but not as long as the current lines. You don't even get that during the Deluxe after hours where its a limited time with a single park.

Back in 2020 I figured that is what they were going to do. Have a new paid system included for Deluxe guests.

I don’t think the current film is as popular as it’s predecessor, but I do believe that the capital spent for the expansion may have been better served somewhere else.

Part of the issue is that plenty of people (us included) never saw the value even with older films of the long waits. So we simply crossed it off the list of ever even looking at wait times for it. Only reason we see the entrance is because I love Living with the Land.

I will need to check it out more often next trip on what the wait times are.

To be fair FOP is even worse yet people clamor for that. If you are on the outer third you start to get to a ruined experience. With a bendy Eiffel Tower that has little impact compared to bad 3d effect. Might be spoiled though having VR tech in my house and having historically a 3D active plasma that I would watch movies on when they used to release them.

Disney increases prices and keeps people locked in all the time. I would suspect very few people have locked in Genie+ at this point for the length of their trip. You are probably talking about less than 10% of the daily buyers of Genie+.

That's not what I meant by saying it heavily relies on CGI. I was talking about the scenery. It's painfully clear Taj Mahal isn't really Taj Mahal for example. It's jarring and then when you have Eiffel tower bend on you it's also jarring. The ride may be fun but the film ends up suffering a bit compared to the other one so when it comes to popularity on talking about the 3rd theater being added that comes into play. When they play the California version attendance bumps in part due to nostalgia of course but the viewing experience is a lot better too.

FOP is based off a made up world..way different :)

True, but Disney would like to have that 10% pay the higher Genie+ price rather than get a "deal" by paying $15. They probably want to have everyone have a clean slate before making substantial changes.

Also this isn't a metric for measurement in terms of the majority of Disney guests, but after the announcement I saw a TON of people on these forums and on Disney FB groups I'm in scramble to add Genie+ to their tickets. So there are a decent chunk of people with it already on their tickets.

That is absolutely true. A lot of posts from people who went ahead and added it when they weren't before they got there or were on the fence and it was because of the deadline.

A tiniest of tiny subsets of actual Disney goers though. Thats why I say under 10% instead of under 1%.
