As of about an hour ago, both the state of Florida and Orange County have been moved to the "moderate" tier for risk of Covid transmission.

At the moderate level, there is no recommendation that masks be worn indoors.

Stay tuned!

Interesting news. Often when these tiers change, an area needs to remain in that tier for a period of time before actually making changes.

I expect Disney will want to make their adjustment away from indoor masking just once - not have to change back again if the numbers worsen again. So I'm sure they'll be cautious. Hopefully, this is a sign of changes coming, but there are also warnings of another potential winter surge. We're getting closer, though.....

While I tend to agree with them only wanting to transition once they have already had to reimplement it after relaxing it completely for a couple months so it wouldn't be too big of a deal if they have to go back and forth a few times.
They have publicly said that they are following local guidance and CDC guidance so technically they should be lifting it.

Is CDC guidance still that anyone unvaccinated over age 2 should wear a mask indoors? So if it's changed based on CDC, it would only be changing for the vaccinated? If so, that's where it gets touchy......

When Disney lifted masks before it was supposed to be for vaccinated individuals but on the honor system so not really touchy.
You know half the people were not vaccinated but Disney was not asking for proof.

Another thing Disney probably needs to take into account, because they are fairly unique as a destination. While Orange County might be doing well with transmission rates, there has to be an extremely high percentage (90%-99%??) of people from outside Orange County staying at Disney resorts. I don't have actual figures, but can guesstimate most of the thousands of people at a Disney resort are coming from other parts of the country and world - where transmission rates are unknown. And even the parks must hold a high percentage of non-locals, too - I don't know, is 50% too high a guess? 75%? So while numbers might be improved in Orange County, the actual population visiting Disney doesn't mirror Orange County, and neither do transmission/positivity rates. It can't be an easy decision for Disney to change at this point - but I'm sure they are reviewing all the data and options to keep staff and guests as safe as possible. They've been doing it since March, 2020. Sure hope we don't need to be having this conversation again all of next year....

I have no problems with masks, but man it would be nice not to have to fight my 2 year old to wear a mask. 2 is just so young. half the time she wont even wear her shoes let alone a mask

I have no problem with the masks. It does inhibit breathing a bit … but not as much as COVID! We will be there in a few weeks and will happily wear them indoors and even outside if the crowds get uncomfortable … which I fully expect they will. If a mask is the price for being able to get out and enjoy the world safely,I will happily pay it!

Please don’t make opinion/political comments about Covid or this thread will get squashed.

It was not my intention to make ANY sort of political comment ... opinion maybe, but this forum is full of opinions. It was merely a statement of my personal thoughts and plans with regards to masks, with or without directives from Disney, CDC, or any public health authorities. If anyone took offense, mea culpa ... it was not intended.

Yea, I read your comment and got zero political vibe from it - just an opinion about your willingness to wear a mask if it's crowded.

However, part of Disney World is in Osceola County which is still in the substantial tier.
Plus, 26 states & some areas UK & EU countries surging again. Where are all the guests coming from? Social distancing at the very least can't hurt.
