I've stayed there about 4-5 times,it's a fairly old place but in pretty good condition, rooms are in good shape and it has a good working A/C,I just stayed in a Disney resort for the marathon and if I do again for the race next year I'll have to bring a desk fan to help me fall asleep as Disney's resorts A/C's only get so cold making it hard to fall asleep.Imagine having to run a marathon and you can't fall asleep because the A/C doesn't get cold enough,I wouldn't have had that problem at Maingate Lakeside,I would've have had to drive myself but at least I would have fallen asleep easier.
Another thing I like about Maingate Lakeside is how close it is to Sherberth rd which is like a side road that gets you into Disney property really easy. The hotel doesn't have free breakfast or anything and it charges you like a $10 nightly resort fee even though it's not much of a resort but since every time I've booked it it's been through Hotwire or Travelocity secret hotels paying $30-$40 that $10 is not a big deal.I always have my car when I stay there since I live in Florida so I can't help you with info on shuttles to the Orlando parks.I did however stay there one day I planned to go to Busch Gardens and it just so happens the free Orlando to Busch Gardens shuttle stops in this hotel so we took it it picked us up at the front of the hotel and dropped us off at the front gate of Busch Gardens, same on the way back with a movie playing to and from the park and all we paid was $10 to tip the driver which still saved us at least $10 in gas.
