Has anyone ever stayed here? http://www.maingatelakesideresort.com/

Mixed reviews but overall about a 3.75 star rating. We need pet-friendly (without crazy deposits & fees) & are booked for a La Quinta, but this hotel offers transportation to some Disney parks.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this hotel - or any to recommend. Hoping to stay under $80/night.

TIA! :thumbsup2

I've stayed there about 4-5 times,it's a fairly old place but in pretty good condition, rooms are in good shape and it has a good working A/C,I just stayed in a Disney resort for the marathon and if I do again for the race next year I'll have to bring a desk fan to help me fall asleep as Disney's resorts A/C's only get so cold making it hard to fall asleep.Imagine having to run a marathon and you can't fall asleep because the A/C doesn't get cold enough,I wouldn't have had that problem at Maingate Lakeside,I would've have had to drive myself but at least I would have fallen asleep easier.

Another thing I like about Maingate Lakeside is how close it is to Sherberth rd which is like a side road that gets you into Disney property really easy. The hotel doesn't have free breakfast or anything and it charges you like a $10 nightly resort fee even though it's not much of a resort but since every time I've booked it it's been through Hotwire or Travelocity secret hotels paying $30-$40 that $10 is not a big deal.I always have my car when I stay there since I live in Florida so I can't help you with info on shuttles to the Orlando parks.I did however stay there one day I planned to go to Busch Gardens and it just so happens the free Orlando to Busch Gardens shuttle stops in this hotel so we took it it picked us up at the front of the hotel and dropped us off at the front gate of Busch Gardens, same on the way back with a movie playing to and from the park and all we paid was $10 to tip the driver which still saved us at least $10 in gas.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I think I'll call on my break tonight to make sure they have the free shuttle to the parks. Otherwise it sounds like a good deal & also sounds like it's comparable to La Quinta as far as quality goes, but cheaper!

We stayed here in November for 1 night and thought it was fine for the price. Granted it's older but as long as it's clean and bug-free I'm fine with it. Would stay there again!

I just booked this on Groupon for $39/night for next Saturday. I'm a medical volunteer for the race and have to be there by 3am and didn't feel like spending much for half a night somewhere. The recent reviews look pretty iffy, anyone stay recently? Looking for some current reviews on the rooms. Thanks!

It started life as a Sheraton back in 1972 (in might date from even older) - when we first stayed there - first trip to WDW. Grandmother hated it and when we were at WDW found out how to book the Polyn - which we stayed at until she died.

I have stayed with different owners at this hotel several times. It is old - but still nice.

that say the hotel bus service was shared (don't know if it still is) - and it was like morning was going to the parks and afternoon was coming back - so the schedule was not the best by any means.

I would get a rental car or use that taxi service that is not a taxi. (sorry don't remember the name)
you will have provide transportation from the airport to this hotel.

go over to the Transportation board and see what they recommend.

Good to hear some positive feedback. We are staying here from UK at end June and have been a bit worried after reading some reviews on trip advisor.

It is old.

and they can't tear it down because of the asbestos. although the price is getting cheaper to do it. This is a BIG resort.

I get that it's old - that doesn't bother me as long as it's clean. We will only be there to sleep :)

You could check out the Extended Stay America Lake Buena Vista as well. It is also pet friendly, has a heated pool, small free breakfast, all rooms have a kitchen, & there is no resort fee.
