Maine Vacation Help!!!

Tish, My 1st "Real" job was at Fox's take out. My sister married into the family.

I got fired LOL I was much better cleaning my grandmothers cottages then I was making lobsta sandwitches LOL.

Castelgazer, Where on Long Sands is your families place ? My grandparents lived on broadway. Heading towards Browns Ice creamwith it being on your left(of course you know where that is LOL) there is a real sharp bend in the road and a long high stone wall on the right . My grandparents lived in that compound. It has all been sold off and is now owned by private people.

My grand parents were Elmer and Florence Laughton. I wonder if your family knows them ??

The Hurricane Restaurant in Ogunquit. Make reservations far ahead in season. $$$$
We have reservations made twice for next week at Hurricanes. It can't be beat.

We'll also be dining at the Five-O and at the Ogunquit Lobster Pound. DH is in charge of dining in Maine, as he is the one who cares about it more than I do. He says its the reason we go there every year.

If you're in Ogunquit for breakfast, go to Amore. Coffee to tie you over until you're seated and breakfasts that are a notch above basic bacon and eggs.

When you are near Freeport, make sure that you get some lobster rolls from Day's Lobster Pound. It is a hole in the wall place on Rte 1 near the Yarmouth Exit from the highway. The best lobster rolls we've ever had.

Its worth the trip just to have a Seafodd Sandwich from Seafood Ketch! I haven't been able to get that sandwich out of my mind for 2 years!

I can't tell you how much $$ I made there - it was insane!! Their fish chowder was awesome. My friends who I worked with now own the restaurant and we go back every year for a few meals.

one night's lodging (Saturday night) in/around Manchester (the Best Western in Seabrook is getting good marks)

We're flying to Manchester and driving up the coast.

Route help... from Manchester to the coast, would you take 101 or down the interstate towards Lowell?

thanks for any insight,
Ronda

Ronda, You should take 101 east! You do not want to go south from Manchester down the interstate towards Lowell Mass. You want to go east/north east from Manchester twards Maine.

Seabrook is not really in the Manchester area...it's about an hour away, in the seacoast area across the border from Maine. There are lots of options if you want to stay in the Manchester area right near the airport, but if you want to get the vacation started, you could head for the coast to the seacoast area....Portsmouth area on the NH side or Kittery on the Maine side....but then York is only a little further up the road from there ;) .......

Ronda, Ann is right, Stay on 101 east into Maine/Portsmouth NH . Portsmouth is where my Dads parents lived so I seem to always call that home also LOL.

Portsmoth in my opion is a must for a day trip. I would do Portsmouth over Portland Maine but they are so close (50 miles) try to do both. Its right on the water, you can also take day trips out on boats, Prescotte park is really beauitful, Strawberry Bank is a historial village you walk threw. It gives you a real feeling of the era with people working, talking to you as if it were still that era. Try to ask them a modern day question and you will get a modern day answere FROM THE 1700 !!! Very cool.

If you do go to Portsmouth, walk around town, some streets are so narrow only one car at a time can get threw, Cobble stone streets I think are still there ? Take a horse carrage ride (MY nephew is one of the drivers his name is Fred, if you get him tell him Aunt Bethy says hi LOL)
