Staying in a house in Ellsworth on a lake. Any tips for touring the area and Acadia -- places to eat and see, etc. would be most appreciated!

Love Acadia! We've been camping there twice.

Make sure you see the "quiet" side of the island (other side from Bar Harbor). Truly beautiful.

Have a lobster roll on a pier...any pier.

One thing we really enjoyed was a sunrise kayak trip on one of the lakes (can't remember which one). Great, low-impact environmental way to see the wildlife and have some fun.

Bar Harbor is also fun for a night out...good restaurants, fun shopping, usually some live music in the park.

Have a great trip!

bumping myself -- waiting for a witty Pop Daddy reply.

Go to Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bernard (it's a small town on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island- BTW that is desert, like "he deserted the army" not "The Sahara Desert") It is absolutely the BEST lobster I have ever had in my life.

This is my "neck of the woods" so any more questions you have I would be more than happy to answer!

Jordon Pond for lunch is our favorite! WE LOVE hiking, & we have camped in Acadia every other year for many years now. The "loop" drive thru Acadia park is a nice way to start & see what you'd like to see more of.

My kids love hiking around Jordon Pond...they all take cameras & we go very early...some really nice pics have come out of the walks. Sunrise at Cadillac Mountain can br very pretty too!

AS my little one...now 6...will be older 7 more able to really "hike" next year we will be trying new & harder paths. I even want to bring a few of our Newfoundlands next year! Acadia is one of the few parks where you can still bring dogs with you!

We always rent bikes and bike the Carriage Trails and stop at Jordan Pond house for popovers!

Do I need ressies for Jordan Pond House?

We went for lunch and didn't make reservations.
