When I arrive on Main Street USA I KNOW I'M at Disney! :worship: How classic! What are your favorites there? Do you have any? Personally, I love looking at the horse in the firestation. I also, love the Walt Disney Story, first building on your right when you enter the magical Main Street USA.

What are your favorites?

You know you are at Disney when you catch that first glimpse of the Mouse in charge!

I love the Walt Disney Story and also the Emporium. I always feel "at home" when I see those! Casey's Corner is my favorite Main Street place to eat.

Passing through the entrance on the left side, stopping for a bucket of popcorn, and then going the long way around town square to arrive at the bottom of Main Street looking toward the castle.

The way Walt wanted it to be seen.

Are you talking about Disneyland?

There is no "Walt Disney Story" at Magic Kingdom in WDW.

And, for that matter, I don't recall a horse in the Fire Station.

I don't think she's talking about "Disneyland". Actually, I've never been there but would love to go! Is it as awesome as the Magic Kingdom? It would be hard to believe it could be, because even though I've been there literally, hundreds of times, it never loses it's magic!

There is kind of a "Walt Story" at MK, it's not the same as the one at Hollywood Studios but it is about a Disney timeline with some props. When you walk under the train depot onto Mainstreet U.S.A., on the right, with a common entrance to Tony's, is a Kodak film store. If you continue on through the store, you get to some vintage photography displays and continuing on, you get to some Disney props with scenes of Pluto, and Steamboat Willy. On the wall opposite the Steamboat Willy photo cut-out, is a Disney timeline of Walt's milestones. There is also continuous black and white Mickey movies playing in the same room. The attraction is not called "Walt Disney Story" but it is about his history. I've been to it many times and I can see how someone would consider it that.

You've never seen the horses? They're in the red barn right next to the hair-cut place. It's the horse that pulls the trolley down main-street. The lady in the barn told us that the horses live at Fort Wilderness but they keep them in the barn until they can be transported back to FW during the day. They have a rope to keep you out, but the stable hands are more than willing to talk to you and they're very pleasant besides!!

They've told us that the horses are well taken care of, that after their short work day of pulling the trolley, they go to Fort Wilderness to pull the hay wagon. The wranglers tell us that the horses actually enjoy pulling the wagons and trolleys! That when they hook them up as a two horse team, they compete against each other to be dominant!! (Kind of like my wife!!! LOL!!!)

But they are most definately there! Next time you're at MK, go to the red barn next to the barber shop and ask when the horses are in the barn! They won't let you pet them, but just watching these magnificent creatures is breathtaking!

I love Main Street too Brunette, thanks for reminding me!!!

Aaargh!!

Just for clarity, except for the film store, this has all been closed and removed from the Exposition Hall in the last month.

I believe and this isn't just my opinion (many have commented on this as well, even die hard WDW fans) the DL is even more awesome than MK!! I know this is hard to believe, but there is something about DL that has even more magic than MK does, and that's probably hard to believe because MK is really magical! I do love MK by the way so don't misunderstand me. Some say it's because it's the original, some because it's where Walt walked etc. And I believe those things are part of it for sure!
I believe it's so special due to a couple of reasons....One because Walt's heart and soul went into DL, he poured out every fantasy, every imginative idea he ever had into making this place as special as it could be. It was meant for parents to be able to take their kids there and for the parents to enjoy it too.
:cloud9: I not only think he achieved that, but more!!
I also believe the other reason is that Walt never put together MK or even walked the park before he passed. Oh his ideas and forethought is there to be sure! But Walt was the idea guy, his heart was in it, his brother on the other hand was the financial guy behind it. He figured out how to make the ideas happen when it came to the money, he is a dyed in the wool business man, which is soooo evident when you walk out of a ride and are spit into a shop, you don't have that in DL. :sad2:
Some other differences are....Disney Land's rides are all done more from a perspective of outside rather than all under a roof. I understand why they do this in FL., but that's a big difference between the two besides the shops not being at the end of the ride. Also, there may be waaaay more space at WDW, but DL actually has more packed into a smaller area. Sounds like it wouldn't work, but it really does. I actually think some of the rides are better at DL over MK, I believe the ride POC is better by far, Splash Mt. is better, the shops on Main St. are set up better. I love that the tea cups are set up outside under a tree with paper lanterns being strung like your truly at a party! :goodvibes IASW is far superior with all that's outside, it's so beautiful.
All this to say, it is certainly a magical place without question. Is it as big? No, is it as exciting as going to WDW, no because there is so much more that's involved being at WDW. The food is soo much better at WDW, the hotels are wonderful, and there is much more to do and see than at DL. But they each have their own special place in my heart for their own reasons.
Will I go back as often to DL? Probably not, I'll probably go back there every 5-6 years rather than every other year with WDW.

oh no!!! After reading the description, I wanted to check it out in 3 weeks when we're there!! DS LOVES the old black and white Mickey Mouse cartoons! He's 2 and thinks they're great!

When we first walk in I like to stop at the front of Main Street and just take a moment to enjoy the sight of MK and get that "I'm home" feeling.

When I enter the Square after passing under the train station, I always stop and breath deeply. Can't you just smell the Disney air........

I love walking down Main Street USA!! I love watching the Dapper Dans, the Trolley Show, and the Citizens of Main Street. I could honestly listen to the Dapper Dans sing all day long :lovestruc

Yes, but that's the Trolley Barn, not the Fire Station.
The Fire Station is across the alley and is mostly a gift shop for dog trinkets and fire fighter memorabilia, as I recall.

My confusion is genuine.
Since I haven't been to DL for over 5 years, I am asking if the OP is getting the two Main Streets mixed up.

WHY?

The Walt Disney Story was, in fact, a long-time feature of Town Square in the Disneyland Opera House
(counterpart to MK's Expo Hall.) It is pictured below in the 2000's.

(From HERE.)

And, for all I know, there might have been a horse to be seen in the DL Fire Station.

If it's just a matter of terminology, that's fine.
I'm just asking because two main items that were specifically mentioned do not actually appear that way in WDW's MK.

.

Nothing like a horse/trolly ride to the castle to kick things off, but that's not how we start our WDW trips, MK is actually(gasp!) our least favorite park. Since we usually stay in an 'Epcot Cluster' resort, either DHS or Epcot is our first park.

Hey Robo!

Am I losing my mind? LOL! I have seen the horse at the firestation right next to the barber shop. Isn't that a firestation? I think it states "Fire House 13"..I THINK. Well inside was the horse from the trolley. As Pirate Jeff mentions (thank you Pirate Jeff) there are horses in their and you can pet them if the barnkeeper allows. :goodvibes

The Disney Story, does have the old time camera's from the early 1900's, and various black and white movies. They even run a black and white steam boat willie movie in the back of this building. Not sure what the building is called but it is the very first building toward your right. It has a large porch with rocking chairs there also.

Anyway, I just love Main Street USA! I know we have arrived when I'm there! LOL!

That's Exposition Hall, and, as I said, all of that you described has been removed and the inside area closed.

That interior is being readied to be the new "home" of Mickey and Minnie Mouse Meet & Greets
due to the pending closure of Toontown.
(Don't know if the Mice will be moving there permanently or just temporarily.)

It is also where guests will meet the Fairies and the Princesses...
(temporarily) during
the new Fantasyland Forest mega-rebuild.

I am looking forward to getting to DisneyWorld's Main Street. As has been said, that's when you know you're really there. :goodvibes

But I am confused. I've heard that you can walk all the way through the shops on the Tomorrowland side if the parade is going, but I've also heard that the Arribas shop is on that side and there's no pass through to the next shop. And I've heard that it's the side with the Emporium that you can walk through, which I thought was the Adventureland side. Anyone know which you can walk through, if either? :confused3

Adventureland side (West side of the street) goes through farther.
