Main Street is no place for corporate branding

I agree. THAT'S my issue - not an iconic coffee company coming to Main Street, but this one. Dunkin Donuts has been around a LOT longer. That, or even McDonald's Paul Newman coffee, is better than Starbucks. But to get coffee I like, I'd have to drive offsite.

DD founded in 1950. Starbucks founded in 1971. So yes, longer, but is that all that significant? McDonald's came around in the mid-1950s, but people don't want a McD's on Main Street either.

ha ha ha ha ha. yes, you are right, he did not know that starbucks would exist. but he did envision the Sara Lee bakery. lol.

:thumbsup2

Heck, he would roll in his grave - as so many people like to say here - if he knew Coke ran beverages at the parks. Pepsi sponsored the parks until 1990.

No it did not! Pepsi has NEVER been available in DW, I've been going since 1974!

Pepsi products were available in DL, at least in the 1960s. Pepsi used to sponsor the Golden Horseshoe Review, and I had my first Mtn Dew on Tom Sawyer's Island in 1966 when I was at DL for my 8th birthday.

What next? Tim Horton's? Panera Bread? Dunkin Donuts? Dennys? the list goes on and on

Something happened between Disney and Pepsi in the late 60s, early 70s, not sure what.

I love how some people are saying that Starbucks is "too corporate."

When talking about a Disney Park.

Because Disney is in no way shape or form "corporate" about anything. Nope, not at all.

Carnation used to sponsor the Plaza Restaurant, Kikoman sponsored Adventureland Veranda, GAF (later Kodak) sponsored the Camera Shop. Plus RCA and Fedex have sponsored Space Mountain and ... Disney has always relied on Corporate sponsors.

BTW I'd love to see a McDonalds on Main Street

I think its a subconscious thing stemming from the riots/WTO conference back in 99. Many of those images show protestors smashing up the Starbucks in Seattle so it became known as the corporate enemy.

Or maybe they watched Austin Powers a few too many times.

Pepsi/Frito Lay were the sponsors of the Country Bear Jamboree when the MK opened in 1971. I think Coke became the official soft drink of WDW in 1982. Both Coke and American Express were the sponsors of The American Adventure at Epcot Center when it opened.

So let me see if I have this right. There is a product served at WDW that has the corporate name proudly displayed, that is a "must do", and is embedded in the gestalt of the MK and if it were to ever be discontinued, there would be a thread here that would make this one look like child's play. The product in question is the creation of a company that is an anethema to natives of our 50th State and is the epitome of corporate greed and malfeasance.

We celebrate the Dole Whip, but we take up pitchforks and torches against Starbucks? :confused3

Lol, forgot about dolewhips!

I had my first toll house cookies at wdw in 1977!

Why is Starbucks the anti-Christ?

I agree with the pp who, said we love the dole whip, but don't but a corporation in my parks. What do you think disney is? A huge comlnsy with millions upon millions, if not billions. I have no,idea I don't follow their financial news.

I mean do you drink Disney soda or water? No it's coke. I don't get why bringing in Starbucks is so bad.

Disney is itself a corporate brand, remember that. I really think it will be done very tasteful and the Starbucks logo won't be that prevalent.

It's really quite funny. I have never had a cup of coffe in my life. Had someone give me a coffee candy when I was little and it was so bad that I don't even like the smell of coffee. But, I get to sit and read, listen and view to so many complaints about WDW and one of the biggest and long lasting complaints (besides the busses;)..) is the coffee. IMO, Disney has listened to it's customers. They have tried to improve upon one of their weeknesses. Now, those same customers are whining about it? :rotfl2: Somebody needs to wise up, and it isn't Disney.:thumbsup2
