Main Street is no place for corporate branding

I just have to laugh that the corporate sponsorship has always been in Disney World and Walt knew it. Now that *gasp* STARBUCKS is coming, people are freaking. Get over it. Disney World is not going to close because Starbucks has a presence. It didn't close because *gasp* McDonald's was there. It's not going to close because *gasp* Coke has a freaking tasting place at Epcot.

What is the big deal? It's ONE place on Main Street. You don't like it, don't go there. It's the same as flipping a TV channel when you seen something objectionable. You move on. Good gravy, it's like the world is coming to an end because Starbucks is coming.

Personally, I don't drink coffee and will be laughing at the people who are buying the overpriced beverage at Magic Kingdom or anywhere else.

I was with you :thumbsup2 until the end of your post. why would you laugh at people who buy something they enjoy?

I always find it surprising when people mention how "expensive" Starbucks coffee is. Where I'm from, you cannot get a decent cup of coffee under $5 anywhere! If you want an iced coffee, you're looking at $7-$9. Starbucks here is actually "cheap" compared to anywhere else. :lmao:

Totally agree .... until I got to the end of your post. Why would you laugh?

So, you don't buy anything over-priced at MK then? And when you do, is it ok for us to laugh at you :scratchin

I agree, less than $4 isn't bad in my books.

I'm a coffee drinker, but my DD drinks tea. She is a huge fan of Twinings, which is what she's been served in almost all locations in WDW. She has generally been offered English Breakfast, Prince of Wales, and a few others that aren't coming to me. So, where I continually complain about the coffee, she always enjoys the Twinings tea.

I'm a tea drinker too. Love Twinings (for some reason WDW seems to make it hard to find caffeinated English Breakfast Tea though), and can't stand the stuff Starbucks sells.

I wonder if the Edy's ice cream shop at Epcot will find a new home. My DD loves that place, and every time we go it is packed.

And all other 'corporate' presence like Edy's ice-cream parlour didn't? Why would Starbucks ruin it?

Hey, if horrible Nescafe hasn't ruined the parks, then horrible Star-yucks coffee won't either.

I, personally, don't care for Starbuck's coffee, but I have no problem with this change. "Corporate Branding" has always been present on Main Street, both Disneyland and WDW.

Some old time branding on Main Street at DL were Upjohn Pharmacy, Carnation Ice Cream, Sunkist Juice Bar, Hills Brothers Coffee, Maxwell House Coffee, Timex Watch, Elgin Watch, Kodak Photo, GAF Photo, Hallmark, Bank of America, Santa Fe Railroad, Smuckers Jams and Jellies...and those are just the few I can name quickly.

WDW Main Street has had Sealtest Ice Cream, Edy's Ice Cream, Nestle's, Kodak, SunTrust Bank that I can remember. And probably a whole lot more.

I don't like Starbucks coffee, but I do really like their tea. Does she like Tazo teas?

Iced coffees are not that expensive where I live. More like $2-$4. I don't mind SB coming in, but I really wish Dunkin' Donuts were coming to WDW.:rotfl2:

Do I enjoy Starbucks? Of course. Do I want to see it on Main St? Absolutely not!!! Put them in the resorts, DTD, or somewhere hidden in the parks. Very disappointed!!

I agree. THAT'S my issue - not an iconic coffee company coming to Main Street, but this one. Dunkin Donuts has been around a LOT longer. That, or even McDonald's Paul Newman coffee, is better than Starbucks. But to get coffee I like, I'd have to drive offsite.

Since it's not the Edy's Ice Cream Shop, there's no reasonable reason why it would need to relocate.

It's the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, currently featuring Edy's ice cream.

nope. the plaza ice cream parlor is not in epcot.

Actually when we go to Starbucks she usually gets some sort of steamer with milk and vanilla flavoring. I do love their vanilla rooibos latte, though.

Ahh .:) That ones good.:

There's no Edy's Ice Cream Shop in Epcot. Perhaps you're confusing the current brand served at the soon-to-be-defunct Fountain View with the venue's name?

i'm not confused. the previous poster said "the edy's shop in epcot" and you replied saying its called the plaza ice cream parlor. i was just correcting that misinformation.

. . . but, of course, the presence of starbucks will ruin the theming and atmosphere, destroying the integrity of what Walt built. :confused3

1) I agree.
2) Main Street was to be Walt's home town.
3) Don't think he envisioned a Starbucks.
