i'm planning on a few hours over at FW on our day off from the parks. we're planning on playing on the playground, sitting on the porch, pony rides/petting zoo, dinner at Trail's End, hay ride then watching fireworks on the beach.

i read somewhere on the boards that the Main Street horses are kept in a stable at FW....is this true? if so, has anyone gone to see them & where are they - near Pioneer hall? we'll be driving in then taking the internal bus so i was wondering where the barn was along the way.

thanks.

The horses are indeed at FW. They are in a barn just to the Left and behind Pioneer Hall. It's the Tri-Circle D Ranch. Besides the horses, there is a small museum. All of this is located just behind the petting area, small horses ride.
We were there in Oct. and the grandkids loved it. They brought out one of the large horses and let the kids pet him. Staff was on hand to answer questions.

We love to visit the horses at FW. You're not supposed to pet them, but we do anyway. We have 4 horses and when I go on vacation I have "horse withdrawal." My visits to FW are my "horse fix." They have pony rides for small children and you can take a hayride in the evenings or even a carriage ride.

Our first trip ever to disneyworld and on the first day there right off the plane I decided to make a day of it and go to fort wilderness. We rented a golf cart to ride around in to look at the resort and such. We vistited the petting zoo saw all the animals and saw the main street horses. One of them was outside in the pasture and it was jumping and kicking and running around its enclosure. As it ran past us you could just feel the power we have it all on tape. My son was asking why he was running and I said either hes showing off for his lady friend or hes just happy to be home after a days work at the magic kingdom and hes stretching his legs. Yes there is a muesum inside the building and its quite interesting and the stable is huge. Disney is top notch in there care of there animals and if I was an animal I would say its the most magical place on earth to be . You and your family are gonna love the fort and all its animals.

1. i didn't know that you could rent a golf cart. how much was it, for how long & where do you pick it up? also, how many people per cart? i'm not a golfer so i'm unfamiliar w/ those carts.

2. re: the stable. so you can walk in the stable (it's open to the public), just don't touch anything, right?

thanks for any info.

we love horses so it would be great to see Disney's horses & where they live. my mother just moved to FLA primarily to spend more time w/ her horses! the weather allows her to be outside more w/ her horses year round. she loves FLA!

We called 3mts ahead the minute we knew we where gonna be at the fort on that perticular day and reserved a golf cart you have to use a credit card number as a deposit and its $44 dollars to rent one for 24hrs. When we where done with it we just dropped the keys in the lockbox they left for returning them and we where done as the bike barn was closed. We used it for everything it was so much fun and easy to get around the fort. The number to call and reserve your cart for that day is 407-824-2742 and you can call and reserve your cart. You dont have to stay at the resort to rent the cart and we did it because there was no way I was gonna walk everywhere and I know it sounds nuts but it was our first time in a golf cart. You can rent them at the bike barn and we could of sat 6 comfortably in ours .As for The stable and the petting zoo as long as its open you can walk right in. The muesum is a room off to the side of the stable that shows old photos of the horses and farm animals that used to reside in and around the magic kingdom its just a really cute place to look around. One big thing you must have a valid drivers lisnense to drive the carts so bring ID.
below are some pics we took just for you too see what the petting zoo will look like and the horses.

Momtimesone, Thank you so much for your help! Great to see the pics! i'm always trying to do something different w/ our non-park days but still keep it disney-related. FW sounds like a great idea for my family.

Being originally from KY, I am used to Thoroughbreds. Some of the WDW horses are huge compared to them.
