Hi all, heading to Disney in a couple weeks. Thinking of getting my son's haircut for the 1st time there! Has anyone had any recent experience at the Main Street Barber Shop? Do they do anything special for the 1st haircut? My son will be 18 months old, how are they with children this young? Thanks!! :cool1:

We just took our 2 yr old for her very 1st haircut. We got there just as they were opening the gates. Go in through the left side of the gates, and then the Barber Shop will be directly in front of you as you pass under the train station.

Their door wasn't open yet, so we just waited. Someone else waited in line behind us. Then over to the left, out comes some characters. My DD was first to see Daisy Duck! A line quickly formed. Then the Barber shop opened and we got in first. The lady was great with her. She didn't want to get in the seat at first, so she sprinkled pixie dust on the seat, and I was able to get her to sit down. Then she gave her a bottle of bubbles to play with. That did the trick - the the lady was able to start cutting. Afterward, she got a pink mickey ears that said "first haircut", a certificate, and the gave me all of the hair that she cut.

Very worth the $14. I would do it again.

Wow that sounds great! Thanks for sharing your experience! I just hope DS will sit still! Afraid he may freak out in the chair, ha ha! But it is Disney afterall so I am sure they can handle it!! I am nervous to get his hair cut! ha ha he has beautiful curly hair...and i only wanted it "trimmed!" What better place to do that then in Disney World!! Anyone else have any recent experience??

we live in nevada, so we don't get to wdw too often, it is usualld dland for us. while we are in dland, ds will be turning 1. i thought it would be great to get his first haircut at wdw on on his first birthday. only problem--the kid hardly has any hair still!:rotfl: will they think i'm nuts if i ask for a trim that will only take 1 minute?

DS got his hair cut there this past May - he was 13 months. It was an easy haircut. They kept him very entertained with bubbles and spinning toys, etc. It was also a nice hair cut. I would go back.

For 1st haircuts, they will give you a mickey 1st hair cut ears, certificate, and some locks of hair - all for the same hair cut price.

definitely do it! They are so great with the little ones and they get a certificate and mickey ears. Just be there at rope drop and go first thing so you don't have a long wait. they dont do reservations so the wait can be long later in the day.

We've done this our last three or four trips.

If Michael is there (he has been there every time we went), get him.

He's was great.

We've done it twice. Once on his 1st bday and then once at 15 mos. They used stickers both times and kept him well entertained.

1st haircut-
this is him eating one of the sickers-

We got my DD2 (yes 2!) first haircut there last week. I think the woman's name was Diane. She was great with my daughter. She gave her tons of stickers to keep her busy and it was done in about 5 mintues. We got there as soon as the park opened and waited for a long time since there is only 2 chairs in there! As we left there wasn't anyone in line! :confused3 I reccommend it to everyone, it's a great memory!

I definitely think you should do it even though he doesn't have much hair. We had my DS's first haircut there when he was just over a year old. I had the same dilemma because my DS didn't have much hair to cut either. Now I am so thankful that I had it done! He is almost 3 years old and I recently decided to make a photo album of pictures of him from our Disney trip. His favorite one is of his haircut...he especially loves the pair of Mickey ears he received...pretty priceless...he is so proud of those pictures! What a neat way to make a very magical memory for him to look back on (even if he doesn't remember it at the time)! :wizard:

We had it done at the beginning of August, my kids were part of my sisters Disney wedding (which was fabulous) and we tied in a 2 week vacation with the wedding, we took DS20months to get his hair done... he is largely bald, my kids don't seem to get hair until nearing 2.5 but it was worth it for the novelty.

HOWEVER ds20m did not like the idea of haircuts, was not going to be amused by buzzlight year toys, bubbles, stickers, the parade being re-routed passed the shop (they were fixing liberty square bridge) he screamed like a banshee with only momentary paused of distraction however they were still great- he went all happy when he got his ears and wore them like a star afterwards, got his certificate and clippings (more pixie dust than hair LOL) and looks just lovely.

If we go again with any more under 2's we'll be going again!

I was very worried about my DS2 getting a haircut (he's a little wild), but he just sat there motionless through the whole thing. My DD4 also got her first haircut, but she just got about a half inch trimmed off the ends. We wanted to take them for the pictures & ears. It was really one of the best memories of our trip.

Of course since DS got a "little boy haircut", he already needs his hair to be cut again. Sounds like a good excuse for a second trip. ;)

ok it won't be my first hair cut (i'm 24) but I really want to go there...do you think I'll get the pixie dust on my seat too?! ooo I hope so lol

p.s. they don't mind doing hair cuts for older people do they?!

There was a guy in there with his grandkids having his done for his retirement- he had a mickey stencilled to the back of his hair and pixie dust too- when we went and the guy in the chair before my 20month old was my husbands age

OMG I'm so excited now! I was thinking that it was just for boys because it's a "barber shop". I'm most certainly going to bring my DD on her 3rd birthday for her first haircut! :cutie: Only $14, too?!? That blows my mind! that's the same as I paid at the WalMart salon last week for my sons. Plus they get Mickey ears?? This is great and the picture of your little ones are great! Thanks for sharing!

A friend just got back and she took her youngest child (she has three) who is 10.5 months - she said there is no way to strap them in and her daughter who is usually pretty quiet was trying to get down, she had to hold her and they had trouble cutting her hair. She was telling me not to do it. So now I was all set to get this done for DD's first haircut but she is telling me it not a good idea since DD is very active.

The haircut is only $14 and they get the ears and certificate if it's their first. Also, since your DD is 3, she may also want the confetti & color. (It's free with a haircut and about $7.50 w/o). They will put her hair up into a ponytail and paint on some color of her choice and sprinkle some confetti on it. Both of my girls got this and they got lots of comments all day about how cute it was.
