In one of the Disney Cruise line groups someone posted that they weren't feeling well and there waiter told them just to call down on what they wanted and would bring it up from the room and they weren't Concierge . Has anyone able just do to it, if you couldn't make your dining time or another reason? Do you go through Room service or is the a special number you call?

I have seen scattered reports of it. I have also seen dining room staff offer to put a tray together if someone at the table is not there due to illness or leaves due to illness. I experienced this when DW was ill one night on one of our cruises.
That is be the only time it should be requested. They have alternative food options if you are unable to make your MDR time or just don't want to go on a particular night. If you are going to be a little late, and by little like 15 minutes or so, they can usually work around it.

On the Fantasy in august 2019 my husband did not go to dinner the head sever inquired and I said he was not feeling well. He goes what does he want and they delivered a 3 course dinner to the room. What I thought was really cute was the even included the Royal Court napkin. DH was very appreciative for the good dinner since he was just going to call room service.

My daughter was tired, grumpy, and super difficult one night at dinner. My husband ended up taking her to our room, but there was a dessert I really wanted so I stayed and was going to meet him in the room later. Our waiter asked what he would want and packed our dessert on covered plates so I could take it to the room. Turned out they decided to fill up on ice cream cones before going to the room so he had lots of dessert that night. I get the impression it's done but not a routine thing.

It is really when it is needed for health-like reasons, not because you got back late from an excursion or something.

I think it's just in special circumstances like illness. I'm not sure you could just call either; in most situations I've heard of it is offered vs requested.

Not an MDR but on our first cruise we had to leave Palo brunch early because our daughter who was three didn't want to stay in the club (and the counsellors there really really tried but she would have none of it). Our hot menu items hadn't come out yet so our server very kindly had them sent to our room. We wouldn't have asked but it was appreciated.

On our first cruise, the boat started really rocking when we sat down to dinner. I tried to stay, we even ordered dinner, but it was a no-go. Our head server had our lobster tails sent to our stateroom! He even called the stateroom to check how I was feeling and it we enjoyed our dinner. It was so thoughtful.

Would be nice if it was an actual option but I understand there would be a huge shortage in staff to make that happen if a bunch of people wanted to do that.

We knew our server was not nice on our first DCL cruise but this thread definitely comfirms it. No one ever sent us food when we left early because of sea sickness.

My husband was feeling sick one night so our servers sent his food back to the room with me. Same thing happened another night, I wasn't feeling well so they send my food with him. :) This was on different cruises.

We went on a cruise for my wife's 60th birthday and took our adult children and grandkids. Took our three daughters and their partners to Palo for dinner and our son (who had no interest in Palo) stayed in our cabin (the Walt Suite) with the 6 grandkids. The youngest was just over 3 months old (booked before they raised the minimum age to cruise) and she was not happy. Her mother ended up leaving before we ate and Palo sent her meal down to the room. It wasn't something we asked for. Not sure if they do that in general, or if it was becasue we were staying on one of the Royal suites.

I got really sea sick one night and they sent dessert and a roll of crackers back to the room with my husband (I had told him to stay and finish dinner).

My husband was quarantined for our first cruise when he came down with noro on the ship, and someone called the room to offer to have food delivered to him from the MDR. He was feeling so bad he actually couldn't eat a thing, but that was how they did it for him.

As with most unexpected experiences people have reported, this "pixie dust" treatment is at the castmembers' discretion and is not guaranteed. To my knowledge, there is no way to request in advance for dining room meals to be delivered to a non-Concierge room. If someone in a group is unable to come to dinner or needs to leave early, it is possible that a server will offer to send food. This may depend on how busy the kitchen is that night.

It does sound like in many cases the other guests take it with them to the room also... which makes it infinitely easier on the staff. I showed up with a horrible sunburn one time and was feeling so gross from it I couldn't eat my meal they insisted I order. They didn't offer to send it with me instead for later, but they did say they would bring me literally anything I thought I could stomach. TLDR my meal that night was basically a mountain of vanilla ice cream. :rotfl2:

One night DD was exhausted and barely made it through her entree. I took her up to bed, but my parents stayed to finish the meal. I was shocked when our assistant server knocked at my door with my entree and 3 dessert selections.

As others have noted, having an MDR dinner sent to a stateroom can be an option if exceptional circumstances [usually involving illness] are involved, and it really has to be something that is offered at the discretion of the dining staff when they think the circumstances warrant it, as opposed to asked for.

I had an allergic reaction one night in the MDR [airborne reaction to seafood] just before our main course started. I had to rapidly leave the MDR.

Our serving team packaged up the rest of my dinner for me. The Head Server called to check on me later that evening.

The Head Server explained that in two nights time it was Lobster Night and he suggested I NOT eat in the MDR that night as "lobster is everywhere" and it would be even worse than that night, that instead if I was ok with it they would bring my dinner to my stateroom on Lobster Night. We already were used to ordering our meals the night before because of food allergies, so this was easy to manage; we pre-ordered at dinner the night before. On Lobster night someone from the serving staff from our assigned MDR [not our serving team but they had the uniform from that MDR on] brought my pre-arranged meal to my stateroom at the time we had arranged with our Head Server. It came with a nice note from our Server and Head Server. My sister had dinner alone in the MDR [it was Animator's and she wanted to see the show!].
