Mailing A Package to Disney World Resort

First I want to say thanks to all the Dis Boarders who have unknowingly answered all my questions thru their many posts.

OK. So I have read so much conflicting (and outdated) info on how to mail a package to your Disney resort hotel that I would appreciate some help. Thanks everyone.

1. If I am mailing from the post office, what address do I use? I have read that the post office does not recognize Disney street names. (I am going through the post office because my small town only has very expensive options other than the post office).

2. How do I address the package (I would love an example)?

3. When should I mail based on #1 and the fact that I live in California?

4. Is there any other information people who have done this would like to share? Any tips, experiences they have had that might help make this a smooth process?

1. If I am mailing from the post office, what address do I use? See Below This is a central address for all WDW mail. From there it is routed into the resorts, parks, WDW offices, etc.

2. How do I address the package (I would love an example)?

Primary Name on Booking & Arrival Date (ex: Mickey Mouse - Arriving 3/23/11)
C/O Your Resort Name
P.O. Box 10000
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

I would also suggest writing your name in large letters with a sharpie pen on all sides of the box - this will make it easier to find if it is on a shelf in bell services.

3. When should I mail based on #1 and the fact that I live in California?
It depends on which shipping method you use. I would suggest shipping it 10 days before your arrival date. It will just sit in bell services until you get there. This way if there is a back up in the mail, it should still beat you to WDW. I would suggest getting delivery confirmation so you can track it also. You will also have the arrival date, which may help bell services when you go to pick up the package.

4. Is there any other information people who have done this would like to share? Any tips, experiences they have had that might help make this a smooth process? I haven't shipped anything myself, but have heard of a lot of people who have.

When I have mailed a package to my resort in the past, this was the mailing address format I used with success:

Hold for Guest: Jane Doe
Check In 3/24/11
Reservation # 123456789
c/o Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
2901 Osceola Parkway
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

You can find actual resort addresses several places. On the Disney website, they list the address of the resort on the resort page.

There is also a sticky right at the top of the page that tells you how to ship to a resort, and any charges you may incur if you are staying at a "convention" resort.

I have shipped a few times, though I have used UPS. I use the actual resort address that we're staying at, just like cbg1027 did. I put our arrival date on it, but I do NOT put our reservation # on it. I don't want someone messing w/our ressies! I tell guest services when we arrive that I have a package & it always there. Now I ship it out 7 days b4 from Chicago thru UPS. You are shipping from Cali which would take longer I would think & thru post office. I would send it at least 10 days b4, maybe even more to make sure it's definitely there for you.

They charge fees only if it's a convention resort (like CR, CSR) b/c lots of conventioners ship stuff there for the conventions. If you are staying at another resort, like AKL, you are not charged.

Just to jump on here with a few questions for those that have answered.

~About how much was your package you shipped and how much did it weigh?
~Did you do return lables, if so how did that work? Where was your package picked up at?
~Has anyone heard of UPS luggage solutions http://www.theupsstore.com/logistics/Pages/index.html#/luggage-logistics

Have looked over the entire site and can't find pricing for luggage solutions.

The package I sent was an 8.5" x 11" padded envelope. It was less than 1lb.

Disney had the package waiting in my room when I arrived.

While that's true for the convention resorts this past December for whatever reason we weren't charged for something my Aunt ordered online and got it shipped to the Boardwalk because it was less expensive that way. Basically for whatever reason the item she ordered never got shipped to the Boardwalk Convention Center, instead when it arrived in Orlando it went to the US Post Office over there and the package had the correct address for the Boardwalk. So when it finally arrived at the Boardwalk it was sent to the Housekeeping department who then put it in our room, so that's why we didn't pay the $ to pick it up from their Convention Center.

I don't think anyone can make changes to your reservation with just your name and reservation number. You have to have the address and phone number on file as well.

I think it's important to include your reservation number - there can be two people with the same or similar names in the resort at the same time. Mix ups happen and they can track you better with your reservation number on the package.

Sorry to invade this topic but I had a questions:

Would it be cheaper to ship food to our resort or just get groceries through wegoshop.com? (I know you you cant get cold stuff but we only need packaged food that can be stored without a fridge and nuked in the microwave)

Thanks for all the great advice. I really appreciated the tip on writing our name on each side of the package. Any more ideas...keep em coming these are great.

One more question though
Does anyone know if the post office recognizes Disney World street addresses?

I spoke to a Disney Cast Member and she said to mail it to the resort street name. This is not the general PO Box so, still some conflicting info from sources. I would love to hear from someone who has used the post office to mail their package. Anyone???

Yes, the USPS recognizes Disney street addresses. They are 'normal' addresses.

In the case of resorts with convention centers, it is wise to send USPS and NOT FedEx or UPS because the latter two end up in the convention center while regular postal service mail goes to the front desk.
