has anyone done this lately? there used to be a thread on here about it and i remember frustration...

i might do this just to save us precious time when we get there...

Here is my post from another board about getting a FL marraige license by mail. It is really easly and I reccommend it to everyone.

I just wanted to update how amazing the Brevard county marraige license folks are. I faxed in a request for marriage license application form that is on their website. I sent an e-mail just to confirm that they received it. The person who answered was very friendly and helpful. About a month later we got the license application in the mail - I got nervous after a few weeks and e-mailed again to make sure it was coming. The woman reassured me that I was over anxious and not to worry. We got the application notarized and paid our $93.50 and sent it off the Saturday before labor day. A week later the license came. I am so happy we went this way and don't have to deal with going to the courhouse after we get to Florida. I highly reccommend getting your license this way.
This is the address for Brevard country clerk of the court.

o good, i thought it was more expensive to do it by mail...where did you find the fax #? i couldn't find one on the website!

The fax number is on the form itself. If you look at the PDF there is a page of instruction and information - the fax number is there. If you are having problems you can call the phone number they list on the form as well. The ladies I talked to were really friendly and helpful.

Woo hoo! I needed this info and I'm glad someone else asked. I'll be faxing my application request at lunch!! Thanks Caryn for starting the thread and autumnbride2B for posting the info!

Gotta keep this info handy, I'll be opting to get my license by mail too!

Very helpful, thanks!

I think I'm going to try to get it by mail as well. One less thing to worry about when we get there...

I'm jealous! Why isnt this available to Florida Residents??

Because you can go your local courthouse and get one. The license can be from any county in Florida.

We did the Brevard County by mail and it worked out just fine. And yes, the employees were more than helpful ! Good luck.

well crap...I got mine online through Rev Tim's web site (eventhough we aren't using him) and they chaged us $190...i feel so ripped off! GRRRRR :headache:

So both my DF and I have to leave work at the same time, go downtown and stand in line for who knows how long... just because we're getting married in the state we live in? Doesnt seem fair to me when everyone else can do it by mail. :headache:

I didn't read anything anywhere that said that you couldn't order the license by mail if you're a Florida resisdent. Also, they offer the kiosk link on the website to expedite the process when you actually go into the courthouse.
Even without using the the kiosk though, I've heard nothing but good things about going in person from ladies on this board. Especially how quick and easy it was. Here's a Q&A from the FAQ page (I think this is when you use the kiosk feature on the website, prior to showing up).

Q. How long does it take to get a license?
A. When the application is filed, the license is issued immediately. The process normally takes no more than 15 minutes. However, there is a three-day waiting period before the license becomes valid for use, if both parties are Florida residents and both parties have not completed a state sanctioned marriage preparation course.

Again... I didn't read anything anywhere that said that you can't mail away for it just like someone out of state. Maybe I'm missing something. Just keep in mind that you and your DF will still have to be present and pay a notary public to sign the license application if you mail away for it. Unless you know someone who will do it for free. Going to the courthouse eliminates the extra coordination and fee. HTH

I couldn't agree more! This is the 1 thing that has given me wedding anxiety. We aren't going to WDW until 1 day before the wedding which is packed with a million other things to do. Getting it through the mail would save so much grief!

We have a had a time coordinating this! I cannot wait until we go to WDW because we (FL residents) also have a THREE day waiting period. Since we go to WDW 1 day before the big day, that won't work. Luckily the schools are closed on Wednesday here so DF is having to take off from work so we can go Wednesday afternoon. The office is open from 9am to 4pm so there is no other way to do this. :sad2:

I will be SO happy to have it in my hands Wednesday afternoon so I can quit having nightmares about not having it!!

We used the notary at our bank and since we were customers there we didn't have to pay a fee. We also got the money order without charge becasue we did it at our bank. I suggest checking that option out before you go to a notary that charges for their services.

:thumbsup2 Good to know. Although our bank charges for everything! DF hates the bank and claims he's changing every month... but then he never does. It's so hard nowadays with everything 'linked' to your account. It's not just a matter of making sure some checks clear and then closing the account.

Hiya,

Does anyone know if you can apply if your from the uk? I would prefer to do it through the post.

Thanks

there is something on there about shipping to uk...

df faxed ours off this morning and i got an email from michele at the brevard county courthouse this afternoon confirming that they got it.

floriday charges soooooo much for a marriage license...it's only $35 in texas. i swear disney has something to do with this...

I think you're right! They're only $20 in Michigan and only one person needs to be present to get the license. But, there is a three day waiting period and you have to have a whole bunch of extra documentation and information.

Okay, I just faxed my "Marriage License Information by Mail" sheet. Whew. One more thing that's in progress and closer to being checked off the list. I'll say it again, I'm glad this thread came along when it did.

i am so glad that we decided to do it this way...soooooo much easier. we have a 3 day waiting period here in tx as well, but there are ways to get out of it. i'm telling you, disney and the state of florida have this whole dftw thing wrapped up together. there is no reason why a marriage license should cost almost $100...oh well.
